For the squirrel control, my .22 works best. You have to have the door or window cracked before or they bolt. The bird seed is what they go after, so I found if you keep the seed out, they tend to stay on the seed, and make a perfect perch for being shot. Took out 60+ of the little ****** one winter in the course of a couple months.

The live traps i have caught 1 but not around to check them. I reset the two traps everytime im up but to no avail, food is gone but trap still open. Man we need snow 20 replies about offing squirrels. Thanks to everyone i will be using some of your suggestions nxt week.

LOL, unless you are looking for a hobby for the rest of your life.
Find where they are getting in and fix the hole.

Got many 22 rounds. Federal, Winchester, CCI mini mags 40 and 36 grain and some CCI bird shot. If you need some. Red squirrels did a lot of damage to my cabin as they tried to chew they're way out though the window frames.

Yea thats just it, got the place last yr & it seems one part was built on a wood foundation. The other is 8" concrete block & t footings... Were the two foundations meet there is a 16" void between the two. I blocked up one side i knew they were entering. My guess is they are entering thru the other side of foundation & using the "channel" in the walls to come in. However dont see any "chew holes". No tracks outside on that side of foundation. Oh well looks like ill be burning some rounds up. Dont want to use poison as i bring the dogs up with me.

just a heads up, NOT sure what the law's are up your way, but down here in PA<
a good buddy of mine got a TON of fines for shooting the dam rats out of season a neighbor told on him
so careful there

I have had great luck with live box traps
I set a pile of sun flower seeds on the floor, and they go right in
I would wait till I got a few and then as others have done, take em for a ride as far away as I feel like it
I always try to go over 5+ miles, as the dam things DO come back??
there super territorial, as to the gray one
and will get chased far too , in the new area when others find them there!

spray can foam can be a great tool to seal holes
BUT if they been using one a LONG time they are smart enough to chew thru it to re open

best plan as said above is SEAL the place up tight

at my hunting cam we had issue's with mice

he took a few water jugs, filled them with a few gallons of cooking oil, and then left them at an angle with a way for things to get INTO them, sprinkle some Oats on top, (floats)
and then when the suckers climb in to get to the oats they get stuck in the oil and cannot climb out, they then drown, and well, being in the oil, they don;'t get all funky smelling
as we some times don't check things for months at a time
kind of pickles them LOL

I would think this would work with red squirrels too, as they should be small enough to get into a 5 gallon water jug
maybe some peanuts in the oil as a lure!! OR even just peanut oil on top of some what ever Cheap oil you can find

You have to find where their getting in and block the holes. There should be at least two of them an in and an outs. Do the attic first get a couple rat traps and nail it down bait it with peanut butter. If you catch them there you know that coming from the top. Look for the holes they can squeeze in a 3/8 inch slot like a roof vent. If you dont catch any in the attic look around the first floor for the holes

Since we are talking squirrels, anybody know how to get rid of flying squirrels? They are living in my roof, but I do not have an attic. I been using rat traps but they out smarted them. Any ideas how to get these damn things out of my roof?
You have a metal roof? You can try some squirrel grease on the part your think their using. When they squeeze in they dont like getting the grease on them because they have to clean it. Or stuff some moth balls up the ribs. Flying squirrels like to fly in and out. They dont like flying to the ground not saying they wont if they have a nice house. Others are watching them too. They will go to the highest point of your cabin to a tree. You have to clean your yard of trees within flying distance.

flying squirrels are HIGHLY protected here in PA
BIG fines come with killing one, so again heads up LOL

there a nocturnal critter as well
they don't like LIGHTS
so leaving a light on , or shining one where they get in and out will make them want to move

as for using an Orange slice
???
I threw a case of oranges out here, have about 10-15 squirrels here every day
bears, deer, coons you name it a TON of critters, between food plots and feeders I run
and NOT a single critter would touch an orange,
they sat out there for about 2 months before they started to break down(turned Black first)
NOTHING here will eat one
NOR a Banana , or a potato, I have found over the yrs
Lettuce, ONLY if I plant it, if I buy one for a salad or likes form framers market and toss the rest outside
NOTHING will eat that either?? rabbits walk around it like its NOT there! HAHA!

a couple recent pic's here ?

last two are a flying squirrel on the tree
