Removing Decals

Hey

I just got a used Cougar for daughter's first sled and it has old registration decals on it. How can I take them off without ruining the finish on the hood?

I think I heard of using a heat gun but do not have one and do not want to go to the effort of getting one if that is not the trick.

Thanks

Just use a hairdryer- that will warm it up enough!
You will probally need some glue remover after that with a soft rag!
Any parts or auto paint retailer will have the glue remover!

For glue remover I just use 91 percent isopropyl alcohol from the drug store, it's cheap and works great

I Always use a power washer. Just take the nossle and try to spray behind the stickers. Usually they go flying.

Like was said above use a hairdryer to remove the decals then use WD-40 to remove the glue. WD-40 works great to remove glue and won't dull the finish.

X'2 fcat 700. W-d40 works great to remove the glue. I use a old dish rag it seems to work best. When your done use some alcohol to prep the surface for the new decal. When using a hair dryer be careful if it is hot it can make the paint soft and you will end up removing paint.

All the above exept use a plain old paste wax or any wax without teflon or anything like teflon. Next time you want them off 90% if the time they will peel right off. And no, if the right wax is used they won't blow off or fall off or anything you're thinking. I put on alot of decals on cars which get changed on a weekly basis and always wax first.

What about removing stickers from a windshield? Will the WD40 still work? I know brake cleaner will not work! Just covered up the damage with a new sticker, but still would like to know what works best on a window.

WD 40 should get the residue off and such. Using brake cleaner on any type of plastic is bad bad bad!

just keep putting reg stickers on over the old ones, eventually the glue that holds the first one on will give and they will all fall off on thier own.

My uncle did that and his registration sticker fell off! So he had 1 2010 wisconsin registration sticker and a 1987 wisconsin registration sticker lol

I will try the WD-40 next time. Nail polish remover works from what I am told too!

DO NOT use nail polish remover, you will end up with the same result as brake cleaner. Keep it simple, WD-40.-Mezz

Thanks Mezz and all the others. Vic Junior seems to be a little insecure, does anyone else sense that?
