The route from the International Border to TRF is 100% groomed. My back yard. Depending on snow amounts it is possible to groom this particular section tabletop smooth. Even the field crossings. Absolute top end can be run for many many miles. The first leg is not going to take very long.

I was wondering about that. The route map has most of the race in white meaning ditches. I could not imagine riding ditches for the majority of the race. Or is their definition of ditches different than my definition?

Kip seems a little apprehensive with renting sleds for this quick 500 mile loop? There is a fella by the name of Cooksend that rents sleds. I hear his sleds come with race numbers already on them? Wouldn't that be a gas,if a hand full of guys showed up on rentals ? Not that they would place, but just complete the race. I bet they would get more press than the factory boys.

The ditches involved are not your father's ditches. The ditches up here are groomed. The field crossings get built up. A fat old out of shape guy can ride 120 mph for miles. If Bearassler has been up this way he can confirm this. You are going to need something with top end to win this thing. If they let turboVipers in they have a chance. A normally aspirated Viper or AC equivalent going 95 max isn't going to cut it.

I ran into a friend that works for the USXC in the winter at Sam's Club the day before Thanksgiving and asked him how things are progressing on the I-500. He said they have lots of entries so far and things are setting up for a great race. Is anyone on JD going to give it a shot. They have lots of different classes.

Front page article in the Grand Forks Herald today said they pulled the plug on this years race due to no snow, to bad, I know a lot of work went into this and there was a lot of buzz in this area for the race. Brian Nelson did say they plan to do it next year.

I was just thinking about this race and the lack of snow, as i prepare to go to the I -500 up at Sault Ste. Marie Mi. 500 miles on a 1 mile oval ice track.
Too bad the conditions won't allow for this to be run. I was looking forward to this long distance cross country event.
