Rhinelander help

Have ridden for years in northwoods, mostly northwest vilas and up and around midwest. Have a house now just east of rhinelander. I have a small group coming up this weekend that loves to ride and put on miles. Just looking for some routes and new places to see, maybe east to forest, or south to lincoln. Open to suggestions. Any help will be appreciated. Trails where good around rhinelander last week but I did not venture too far just learning local trails. Thanks

While I have always come at it more from southern Forest County, the loop around Northern Forest County (through Hiles, Alvin, Long Lake, rtc.) has always been a good one for racking up miles and avoiding crowds (http://www.forestcountywi.com/forestry/docs/County_Snowmobile_Map_2014.pdf). A couple of places as far as good snowmobile pit stops are Pine Lake Pub and Cafe in Hiles (#53 on map), the Whitetail in Tipler (#116), or Johnnie's Resort (#112).

A little on the short side of snow in that area IMO but head up into the 3 lakes area take the Kimball north go west on trail 10 in Forest County new loop east of the Wayside take that south to 3 lakes & can gas up at Wayside all extreme twisty riding could cut thru Sugar Camp wide open thru there then back to Rhinelander. Get some maps & have it but head north more snow.

Forest County is always a good bet. Other good areas are Sugar Camp and west of Rhinelander towards Tomahawk. When there is enough snow on the ground, southern Oneida/ northern Langlade county is a good area, but not a lot of pit stops in certain spots. We rode from our cabin on the south side of Rhinelander a couple weekends ago and took 13 north to 12 and then west to 15/cross country bar (we stop there at least once every time we ride the area). Took 15 north around the Rainbow flowage to Lake Tomahawk and then south on 17 to trail 8 back towards Rhinelander. The only area with lots of traffic was St. Germain, which is to be expected.

I would go northwest to park falls area. From Minocqua all the way over to Eagle River and a create a 50 mile diameter bubble around Minocqua, St Germain, and ER, the trails are pretty much trashed. They were BAD last weekend (just way too much traffic to handle), I couldn't imagine how they will be this coming weekend without any new snow. Just my opinion,,, I covered Minocqua to ER and back last weekend...

We put on 140 miles on Monday the 30th from Rhinelander, to lake tomahawk, to Minocqua, to the casino in flambeau, back through st Germain, then sugar camp and Rhinelander. Trails have never been better, all groomed and fast. Only saw few sleds all day(it was really cold out). Groomers did a great job fixing everything sunday night after the busy weekend. I would rate the trails a 9 out of 10. Awesome ride!

Well one report trails are trashed and one report they are a 9. Sounds like if you rode them after they were groomed before traffic got on them they are nice, if you get on them after traffic they are bad. Sounds like every weekend in the north woods

Indy's used to UP deep snow & not going to happen south so you get old snow well groomed & snirty but lots of people like that condition & ride the old iron on pancake flat trails. Not really good or bad just different IMO.

I may be headed just north of Rhinelander this weekend to visit family. I am considering bringing the sleds along. Has anyone ridden between Rhinelander and Lake Tomohawk recently and willing to share a report?

Should be fine but ride north more snow northeast & northwest of Rhinelander...You will be surprised lots more than Rhinelander.

We were in Tomahawk last weekend & there trails were getting thin. Like Whitedust says north & east are pretty good. Anything in town in not good.

Rode Rhinelander this weekend. There was more snow to the north, but, there is enough snow here if you choose to stay in this area. Little less snow here meant no moguls. Trails were groomed however they were extremely hard due to cold this weekend - no hyfax lube. Traffic was not bad either so trails held up good. Snirtty in areas, but was very rideable!

Thanks for the reports. Sounds like we should bring the sleds. We will not venture into Rhinelander but will stay north.
