I'll be in the yoop for my first time next week at the clean snowmobile competition. I believe that we are at the Keewenaw Research Center. If anyone is going to be there or wants to stop by and come see some modified sleds stop by. I'm with UMN Twin Cities, and we have a maroon and gold wrapped switchback.

ah yes I remember you now DEAN...at the time we talked I had been working on some GREEN RACING ideas we had going....one was a modified polarious...I wanted to use a CAT EFI system....but they opted to go with CLEAN FIRE Polaris....never worked good....all Polaris engines went down...I now remember discussing tuning with you....I hope you did some checking and realize that you get more bang for the buck from whatever energy source you are using if the tracks lays dead flat....I take it they electric sleds are coming along way better now due to batteries and what not...we are making some rally cool batteries now....flat plastic sheets of batteries that can wrap the vehicle..some that try to run on water....hydrogen and oxygen splitting into energy sources ...think hunt for red October....would be really cool to see how far youse guys are getting now.....I want my electric sled soon dude.....get on it and win this thing will ya...instead of a yami sidewinder I want a TEXTRON TELEPORTER DUDE.....LMAO....good luck dean

So this techy alternate fuel snowmobile contest has been going on for what?....20+ years? what is the point?.... seems lazy on the behalf of the university that is happy to collect your semesters tuition.

Yamaha went full on 4 stroke thinking it was the future as seen by the unelected EPA Nazis and look where it got them....under the freaking BUS!
What is the point of trying to create a low emission Gnat on the hair of an elephant when the dogooders jet across this planet spewing more damn pollution directly into the atmosphere than all the sleds from Eliason on to now???? LOL what delusional crock a schit.

Definitely just powered more than an 850 with that post.

snobuilder, I hope I am taking your post correctly and I have to say I completely agree, a few years back we were led to believe the 2 stroke was going away and look where it is now, weather it is a snowmobile, outboard, dirt bike, lawnmower, chainsaw, etc I too think they are picking on too small of an industry in the scheme of pollution,, yes I feel they needed to run more efficiently and look at the technology we have as a result but I agree the EPA are picking literally on a "Gnat on the hair on an elephants back" and I also agree on all the "do gooders jetting across the planet" or what about all the Space X rockets that seem to go up on what almost seems like a day to day basis, you never hear what these thinks do to our atmosphere or o-zone layer, oh but wait...... these things are a necessity. I hope I read your post correctly because I do agree too much effort, money and research being wasted on such a small industry as far as pollution goes and again although the technology that has come as a result of is impressive, there are much bigger polluting fish to fry. I'm sorry if I read into it incorrectly and apologize for the rant.

You got my point.
And I'm not ripping on the OP.
Just like to point out the hypocrisy connected with the EPA.

you are mistaken.....what really happens is a company buys the patent and then does nothing with the new technology so that you SHEEPLE buy the same crap over and over....not the EPA or GOV or LABS at all....think out side the box for once in ya tiny little walnut

DEAN....do remember some of my tips? take out drive shaft and mount in lathe and turn the drive wheels a tad so that it runs true with ZERO vibration and a TORQUE increase....and the track....DO NOT tighten it to manu's specs and DO NOT STUD....to garnish more torque and HP to the ground with 20% less friction and drag you loosen the track until it ratchets....then you tighten just a tad....then WOT pull to see if it ratchets.....then tighten a tad...repeat and rinse until its loose as a goose and tracking straight to the rails and NO RATCHET AT WOT....that is THE MOST you can get out of the lower drive train....having the VCI at ZERO also increases torque and HP while lowering friction and drag.....let me know if you do not want this info out there before the contest and I will delete asap and PM you....only a few will see this for the 1st few hours...good luck and I hope you remembered my other tricks as well.....you do em and your chances of winning increase....later....j larue

So the EPA just picked on Yamaha??????????? Not AC, Poo, or Doo???????????????? It appears to me, and many others, that Yamaha made their move in the direction they chose to. Sled chassis design is their downfall, nothing else. Had they wanted to, they could have built the sleds people wanted, and waited for. I too waited for the "all new Yamaha". All for naught.

you and snobobthebuilder and euphoric1 are mixing threads up....this is the clean challenge....what the epa and yami have to do with it is.....NOTHING...I was just pointing out to SNOBOBTHEBUILDER that his statement of hypocrisy of epa....they and you evidently think that because there is a contest for electric snowmobiles by students at a school, that since you don't get an electric snowmobile after this event years later....that somehow the epa and the sled manu's let you down since we are not all driving 4 strokes now....wow....talk aboot off track....PS....all manu's will be making an electric snowmobile in the very near future and all manu's will also have electric ATV's and SxS and jetskis....what epa hypocrisy has to do with any of this is .....out there....way out there

to see it driving go to 2:40.....your sled will do the same...when....20 years from now...will epa be involved...no

It is not just a contest "for electric snowmobiles". The earlier challenges didn't even have a category for electric sleds. It's really just engineering practice for the students, because there have never been any groundbreaking ideas to come from it. And it wouldn't be fair to them to expect groundbreaking ideas.

Where did anyone say that they only picked on Yamaha? He was just pointing out how Yamaha put all their eggs in one basket, and made a bad decision.
