Tracker I have followed the Clean Snowmobile Challenge since its beginning, and respect the research, and engineering ideas to the fullest. You are so right that several companies are developing the electric/powered snowmobiles. These young folks are our future, and deserve our full support. You are right on the hijacking of this thread.

Tracker and old abe, no digs against the clean challenge, as I said the technology that has come as a result of these things is impressive to say the least, I was just agreeing that the epa picks on such a miniscule part of a bigger problem, wether you are a 2 stroke, battery, four stroke or alternative fuel fan, the way all the technology has changed and developed even in the last 5 years and how they have been able to clean up engines and emissions again is impressive to say the least. No matter what comes of it 2 stroke has always been my forte, in my line of work and play. The sound 0f 8000 rms coming from my sled will always be music to my ears. I wasn't trying to change or hijack thread just agreeing with someone

my walnut brain and me see that the rolling resistance of a belt driven electric powered sled is at least a 100 times.....maybe 1000x more than a wheeled vehicle on the pavement.

Is there anyone on here that was in tune with the EPA regs set forth in the early 2000's that didn't think Yamaha was way ahead of the curve?...be honest with yourself.
When the guv gets involved with micro managing industry this is what we get.....all in the name of "saving the planet" ...eff you lying leftist assholes....and here we sit with Polaris not needing a single 4 stroke sled to meet present requirements....what the eff changed?....yea I know,... I can't afford the attorneys to explain the present regs.,....and that is the way they like it.
Yamaha would be a thriving snowmobile producing Co. today except for trying to be compliant in a "written in sand" EPA world.

Wouldn't really need to be belt driven if electric motor powered

sure...electric sleds might be a design no one has ever seen before, but if that becomes the culture ,I think the "quiet sports" will be the only thing left before an electric sled becomes a reality.

Right now the Tiaga is the closest thing to electric sled reality out there and it isn't anything a real sledder will need.
Besides how is running a sled on coal any cleaner than gasoline?

Realistically it's probably not, but with all the new technology coming wind turbines, solar power etc. Could change the whole game.
Public perception of electric vehicles is a major factor also.
Then if you consider no more pipe issues. Hey why not
