Selling a sled

In WI there is a wallet sized registration card that the seller must sign when selling. I would also suggest a detailed bill of sale.

it is crazy that most states dont have tittles for toys costing $13000.
I think ND has them?

Since a sled has no title, what transfers ownership ?

In Illinois, you have a "Snowmobile Registration Card". On the back side is an area to sign and date when you sell. I also make sure to have a "bill of sale" It saved me legal action on a 4X4 I sold. Guy never transferred the title and truck was identified for causing damages. I had a warrant out for my arrested. I produced my bill of sale and all went away, no cost to me.

Yeah, I made the mistake of selling a sled and not making a "bill of sale." I sat and watched the new owner throw the registration card in a drawer full of crap in some old desk. I can almost guarantee it never got transfered and I'm hoping it doesn't come back to haunt me.

In MI back of Reg is a transfer. Deff get a bill of sale with a signiture. Last sled I sold I got antsy and peeled off the 3 year sticker just before pickup. I paid for it and want no connection to it.Thats something to consider.

ND does have titles on Snowmobiles and ATV's but not on boats. It would be better to have titles on all of the above.

In the state of Minnesota,
I sold a sled recently and it went like this;
My sled mechanic gave me a check for the asking price, I made a deposit, check cleared.
A few days later, the sled mechanic called me, told me that he sold it to another guy, and he wanted to pick it up.
Some nice fella, came by and picked it up.
End of story.
The only paperwork is my name on the cancelled check, I will assume the fella had a reciept?

Sounds strange,
The only sleds I have purchased were from dealers, and I have forgotten the details

I used to reg my sleds in OH where they're non-titled vehicles. I'd just tell the lady the vin# and they'd register it in my name. Now all my sleds are reg in MI as that's where I ride and it's the same way. Write down the vin and hand it over and no questions asked.

Ha Ha. That happened to me about 20+ yrs ago. Sold my old Yammi to some kid that lived in some town about 40 miles south of me. About 3 yrs later a Tiffin OH police officer came knockin on my door. Wanted to know if I owned a 84 ss440. I said nope but I can tell you who bought it! They were chasing him thru town when he got stuck going over a big snow bank. He jumped on the back of his buddy's sled and they took off. I gave him the info and he said if I wanted it, just go pay the tow and 2 days storage. I shoulda got it back as I put a new comet clutch, chain, gears and case cover, all new idlers underneath and reclipped the track and then never rode it again. :(

Not Builder Bob

Ezra,
I am not the BBob in Minnetonka,
I don't build
My name is Bob
I design heavy lift cranes

Back to sled titles,
In Mini, we do get a card, stating license fee are paid, and this connects a specific sled to a license #.
