Selling Snowmobile Without Registering?

Hoping someone can help me here. I bought a snowmobile from WI (Has Iowa Registration) and the guy gave me all the correct paperwork (Bill of Sale and Registration). I am wanting to sell the machine now to buy a house, but I never registered it under my name because I only rode it on private property.

Am I able to just give the new buyer the same registration the old owner gave me? I am selling it in MI.

Thank you!

I assume you mean you bought it from someone residing in WI. and the last placed it was registered was IA. To me it sounds like you are trying to make exactly the same transaction you made with the guy you purchased from.
I think it is called title skipping....happens all the time with rec. vehicles.
The only person you need to convince is the person you sell it to.
I prefer buying things that are titled in the name of the person selling the item.

Is your name on the bill of sale ? That may make a diff on whether or not you can just pass it on to the next buyer.

Sleds do not have a title, as an automobile will have.

It shall have (when in Wi for greater than 15 days) a current registration, not to be confused with a title (no such thing, for a sled).
There are 2 types of Registrations
Public & Private,
ALL sleds must have a Registration, when operated on Private Land, it is to have a Private Registration, ($0). You must carry this and present it to a law officer.
Sales tax was to have been paid upon completion of the Private Registration.

You do not need a current registration to sell/buy a sled.
The new owner (Purchaser) needs only a VIN, the document reference below makes no mention of a Bill of sale.
If you review the requirements of registration it makes not mention of any documentation.
If does make mention of Transferring a Registration, which is different then a New Registration on an old sled.
(See WI DNR website, LE0201_2015.pdf, titled "Wisconsin Snowmobile Laws)

See the document, read & understand it, it appears simple.
As with many things, all it takes is money

In WI you have a registration card that is to be signed by owner and handed over to the new owner much the same as a title. The guy that sold it to donp should have put it in his name but ppl don't like paying the sales tax required at the time of registration.

Simply write or type up a bill of sale describing the make, model, year and VIN number of the snowmobile along with your name and address along with buyers name and address and selling price.

Here is a copy & paste from the "Wisconsin Snowmobile Laws"
You stated "much the same" which can many things, but not titling, I would interpret this a "Transferring Registration".

The entire process is not written for easy understanding.
It has the identifying marks of Attorneys.

Snowmobiles Already Registered in Wisconsin
- Choose one of the registration options to apply for a transfer of ownership within 10 days after purchase. If the previous owner's registration is not current, you must apply for transfer of ownership and renew the registration before operation. Transfer Fee - $5

It goes on
Requirements of Registration

Please read that portion, it is beyond copy & paste.

It does make reference to complete DNR 9400-210 titled "Snowmobile Registration Application" It is also 9400-210.pdf
It helps determine Sales Tax (that is to be paid), and it has a requirement for information regarding the buyer & seller, simple stuff, name, address, so on.
This can be completed "On Line" which precludes review of Identification.

Best of Luck
