Septic: Would this be a good move?

I can't remember what year it was, maybe mid - late 90's, but there was a lack of snow in Florence county and my septic tank froze. I hired a guy to put steam under a blanket like grave diggers do so they can dig frozen ground.

Looks like some serious cold on the way without insulating snow.

So the question would be are any of you planning on throwing straw (not alfalfa or deer eat it) over your tank this season?

(I already blew all my leaves away, so can't use them)

Buddy used to put straw on his tank and field every winter. His cottage was never meant to be used year around but he never had a problem so straw sure can’t hurt.

Normal snowy winters, I never worried about it, but this ain't a normal year.

I think you convinced me to spent a few bucks now instead of a couple hundred later, when I go up next week I'll pick some up.

Bob. I don't see the temps being unusually cold in the next two weeks. What reports are you looking at?

straw certainly helps, cover the outgoing line and tank, and avoid driving or sledding over it.
thats if you are seasonal .....if you live there year round, you should not have an issue
