Sheboygan & Manitowoc Counties

We might a chance this week again.
At least from what the news is stating.
Most of the trails here are ice.
What is it like south of milwaukee?
You had more snow that we had.

Sheboygan county is open. Sleds are out packing trails. So clubs tried grooming but need trails run down other wise the snow is pulled off the ice.
Groomers will be out most likely tomorrow or this evening.

I put on about 100 miles tonight - Random Lake, Plymouth, Howards, Elkhart, etc. Random lake area was by far the best - freshly groomed and in great shape. The rest were a mix - some long areas that haven't been groomed at all since the storm. Some that were groomed likely yesterday. Overall, I'd say a 4 out of 10...but if traffic picks up they will be pretty beat by late Saturday I bet. Still need more snow but nothing significant in the forecast.

Just in from grooming the west side of trails we take care of. They turned out nice, only two areas were bad in plowed fields otherwise nice and hard. the new snow was blowing in on the return trails back to Adell.
Will be out doing east end Saturday.
Didn't see anyone turn around where we meet other clubs was I think they will be out soon.
10 hour run tonight. didn't see anyone riding. I think Ozaukee is closed due to warm up.

Ozaukee re-opened Friday 2/15 @ 1PM. All 60+ miles of SnowRunner LTD trails in Sheboygan & Ozaukee County were groomed Friday from 4AM to 10PM. Grooming operations are ongoing and will continue as long as conditions permit. Reports are more snow east, closer to the lake (east of State Hwy 57) due to lake effect & lake enhanced snowfall. Central/Northern Ozaukee County, Southern Sheboygan County picked up 3"-5" yesterday into this morning. Again, looks as if the eastern part of both counties received a little more snow. Traffic was light over the weekend as Howie stated above. Surprised, since conditions are as good as we've had in years. Get out and ride. It could be gone tomorrow... Be Safe. As always, stay on the trail or stay home.

Had a great ride today. Rode trail 5 from Wilke Lake area to Elkhart Lake and into Kettle Moraine. Trails were flat and fast. Even most plowed fields were smooth. Kettle Moraine was bumpy in spots but not bad. Then headed East out of Kettle Moraine towards Waldo and then into Plymouth for lunch at the Roadside Grill. We were breaking trail with a solid 4-5” of powder through the Waldo area as we made our way North into Plymouth. That was a blast! After lunch, headed West along HWY 23 back to the trail 5N intersection. This stretch was fast as usual. Made our way back through Elkhart Lake and over to Wilke Lake. Traffic was light And trails were very good. That loop was about 95 miles. We started at 8:15am. We’re ordering lunch at 11am. Sleds were put away by 1:45pm and I was back in Milwaukee by 3:15pm. That’s a Fantastic day! Enjoy the trails. They are as good as they get for this area.

Did a quick 110 mile ride yesterday and hit the western part of Manitowoc Co. Hit the areas of Wells, Colins, Valders, Clarks Mills, Whitelaw, Maple Grove, and Reedsville. Everything was good to excellent except the trail from Reedsville to Collins. You could see it was a bit drifted over and was bumpy. Not terrible, could still run 25-30 mph, but just not as good as the rest of the system. Was a fun loop. One warning however, when you get towards dusk, slow down in the wooded areas. Must have seen over 20 deer. No close calls because I took it easy. Also saw plenty of turkeys as well. One group of 43!

Trails didn't get wiped out here in Sheboygan county. Out grooming today, will be out tomorrow and should be some nice trails. They will have a big ice base in most areas.
Will keep you posted when they open, need to be inspected for trees and water issues.
Otherwise look at website. nkms trails.

I was hoping you’d say that! I’ve got one more weekend left in me for some riding. My kids are about done but they’ll have to deal with it.

Sheboygan county opened trail system today.
Clubs are grooming. Watch for ice. Trails are grooming up nicely, more snow on the way.

Thanks for the update Howie. What a great winter this has been. I can’t remember the last time the trails were open this many days. Looking forward to some weekend riding!

Manitowoc County trails back open at 6am today (Wednesday 2/27). Lois Corners, Viking Sno Riders and Collins are all actively grooming. Should be another good stretch of riding with last nights snow and more predicted for Friday.

Thank you...Thank You....Thank You to all the snowmobile clubs in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, and Fond du lac Counties. Rode with family and friends last weekend from Kiel/Wilke Lake area to Whitelaw through Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Fond du lac and back. Trails were unbelievable. Special shout out to the Viking Sno Riders grooming operators. I’ve never riden better trails in the past 35 years and I’ve riden the U.P and Keweenaw a lot over the years. I kept thinking I was in some kind of dream. Trails Sunday morning were setup perfectly with the cold temps, groomed, and pristine white. It was just amazing.

Looks like we have one more shot Saturday before spring begins to rolls in late in the day. Thanks again for the best trails ever!!!

Chris,
On behalf of Viking Sno Riders thank you for the call out. A lot of hours spent this year grooming by many individuals. I personally did the full 30+ mile loop Sunday morning and the trails were in great shape before I went over them. Glad you were able to ride and enjoy them.

Dave,

Just a quick follow up to say Thank YOU for the hours you’ve spent grooming this year. I wish you could have seen the huge smiles on everyone’s face as we rode YOUR groomed trails. We are a bunch of 45-50 year olds that were giddy like a group of teens out there last weekend. We had so much fun, we’ll be back out there tomorrow morning for one last ride this season.

Thanks again for all your effort and please share this with the other operators in your club. You guys did one **** of a good job this season!

Do we know yet if the trails are going to remain open for the weekend or Saturday at least? It looks like the rain/ icy mess is not supposed to hit until later in the afternoon at least as of weather report I watched this morning. I was going to head up from Walworth County tomorrow morning (Saturday) for a day ride in Sheboygan county if it appears they are going to keep them open. Doesn't appear that anything has been updated yet to say whether or not they will remain open for a certain time or no closing time posted as of yet. If they do remain open any recommendations on a place to drop with truck and trailer? Thanks in advance.

Chris,
Thank you for the compliments. I already passed along your first reply and will do the same with your second. A lot of club members put in way more time than I including Tucker maintenance, trail marking, fundraising and the such. I'm fortunate enough to get in the groomers drivers seat occasionally. As I get older I actually have more fun grooming where I can take in the scenery more easily in some comfy conditions, really enjoy looking back at well panned trail knowing others can enjoy them. Have had some non-snowmobilers ride along, explain what all goes into making things happen and they have enjoyed the experience.

RS - I can't speak much for Sheboygan county. Here is a link to the Sheboygan trails:

I would think if you head up Hwy 57 off I-43 to Random Lake there would be some places to drop there.

Manitowoc county is on a day to day basis right now. For places to drop the Valders Coop on Hwy 151 on West side of Valders is a good starting point that has groomed trails leading to back to main trail.

Here is a link to trail conditions, scroll to bottom of page to see if open or closed.

You can also call in to find out:
Manitowoc County snowmobile trail information may also be obtained, 24 hours a day at (920)758-7669.

Just in from grooming. Trails in Sheboygan county are day by day also. I don't think they will be closed until Sunday morning if the web page has them open they will post when to be closed to give everyone ample warning. They are very nice at this point.
Places to drop depends where you are coming from, If from south 57 off of I-43 north to Adell at the Gas station or north to Plymouth to the Trail head on Cth. C across from Fleet and Farm..
