Ski-doo 500ss question

I am looking at a 2008 ski-doo 500ss and was looking for some feed back on this sled since i am not currently a Ski-doo person. Engine reliability? Performance? Top speed? any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 500SS is actually Doo's older 600 motor (as compared to the newer 600 HO and 600 HO SDI). I believe it's technically 597cc (versus 593 for the others). I can't tell really tell you anything about top speed, but most Doo guys will likely tell you it's one of the best motors Doo ever made.

I bought a 2009. 90-100 top speed depending on conditions. Cruises at 55-65 like a champ. I had some bad luck at first, but Doo treated me right and I'm over 3000 miles now and havent had to do anything besides lube and cleanings. Light weight, 399lbs! that was nice when I had to roll it out of 4' of snow on to hard pack.

We've got 7000 miles on a 05 GTX500SS and the only thing we've had to do is replace a fuel pump at about 6500 miles. Gets good mileage, maybe 15-17 for the most part and that is on a 2 up. Sips oil. My wife has liked it and I'd have no issue getting another one.
