Pardon me if this is yesterday's news, but I just got an e-mail from Ski-Doo with the new 800R ETEC dyno results, and it makes a peak of 163.9 horsepower at 8000 RPM. How sweet is that!

I just ordered a 2011 Summit X 146" 800R ETEC last week, so this really puts me in a good mood!

Good luck with it. The worst part is gonna be waiting for it to come in. : )

Funny, I remember getting ripped on for being a little overexcited a few weeks back, after riding the Danner Sales demo. I guess I can take some solace in the numbers backing up my excitement.

The test results came from a Skidoo and Arctic Cat dealer. He is a good tuner but Etech had about 600 miles on so it was well broken in. They said did does not feel like the power because its so smooth. Well maybe in 2012 have to see how they do next season.

Will be interesting to see what HP doo rates 800etek. Insurance implications for buyer. My 07 Yam 150 was rated at 144HP....kept below 150 mark as far as insurance. Also stock gearing will get you there quick but probably not much more that 105-107 MPH top end .......just a guess but doubt doo would sell Mach HP capable 800 to masses. Almost need 700 etek at those numbers. Real big jump 600etek 118HP to 800etek at 165 HP without weight penalty. Always liked 700s.

I agree on the 700's. I suspect a big insurance rate boost for the 800etek if they start looking into HP over cc's.

BRP is rating it at 155HP.

I have only been asked cc's on my snowmobiles. If they start going on hp for snowmobiles looks like i will have to buy a 800 polaris. I could not resist with all the 4 year warranty stuff.

I'd be very leery about that thing holding together without grenading on you. 1st yr. low oil delivery E-tek sounds great in theory, but I wouldn't have touched it with a ten foot pole given problems Doo has had with their big-block motors over the years. Twice I had Polaris's on order, one a 700 XC and one a Fusion and when I started reading reviews and reports I cancelled them both and moved on to something else. Good luck, you will need it. Extended warranty is fine as long as BRP makes enough parts should they have a signficant quality corrective action requirement.

One guy on doo talk had engine failure with his early release 800 e-tec due to a pinched oil line if you read the entire post. It was a fluke deal and the guy indicated that. Also, many polls have be put out there on doo talk regarding the durability of the 800 Power Tek motor (the carbed one) and the results are very good. We must remember that a person will post more often if they have problems than someone without probs as you can tell when actual polls are conducted. I see no reason so expect any durability issues with the 800 e-tec motor as compared to any other manufacturers 800 motors. In fact, just the opposite. I expect the 800 e-tec will be at least as durable and reliable that the other manufactures 800 cc motors although this is just my opinion from what I have been reading and hearing. The 600 e-tec motor has had outstanding durability and this should follow with the 800 e-tec.

Insurance rates for sleds is based on engine size not horsepower.

Ski-Doo is currently rating the 800 e-tec at "155+".

Good to see a dyno tested fully broken in 800 e-tec. Looks like at least 5 or more hp than the 800 Power Tek. 163.9 hp, great mileage, easy starting, smooth running...sounds like a winner to me.

Misty, you said it all! I am fully confident this motor will be a winner too. I have never had a Ski-Doo motor grenade on me. That includes a 670, 800 triple, 2x 600 SDIs, 380 fan, and an 800 PowerTek.

Last December my Insurance Man asked me for horsepower.....

That is interesting. Just curious what you based your horsepower figure on that you told your insurance agent? The HP on sleds is not always officially published similar to ATVs and insurance rates are therefore based on engine size. Outboard boat motors although are based on horsepower (not engine size) and are identified sold and marketed that way unlike snowmobiles, and insurance rates are based on the hp figures accordingly from what I know.

Not sure if it applies here, but I got one of those $20 free quotes from AAA yesterday (They paid me to give me a quote), and the agent asked if I had made any modifications to the vehicle that would increase the vehicles horsepower......I was a little taken back that they even asked.

I was asked horsepower or CCs and also top speed. I told him didn't know top speed, hadn't ridden it yet. He said that's fine, it will go by the other info anyway. But with the introduction of 4stroke snowmobiles, they now have to ask horsepower or CCs. Otherwise- how would they classify a 4 stroke?
