Ski doo break in

I am also curious about the idle speed. I am breaking in a 600 summit sport carb in the UP also. I am idling about 3,000 and same thing if I burp the throttle I can get it down to 2500. The specs on the Doo site say 1600 RPM idle for thios engine so we are way high.

I have about 40 miles on mine. Take note that the reverse will not function if the idle is above 3,000RPM and mine lists clutch engagement as 3400 so i need to get my idle down or risk the belt getting hot and wearing.

I added 1 qt of Doo semi syn oil per the dealers insructions. It is smoking at idle but don't notice it on the trail and it runs good.

I can see the idle going up after breakin but am wondering why it is idling so high out of the crate.

Anyone know how to turn the idle down on these XP-carbs? I assume we need to slide the air intake off to get at an idle screw?

Is yours a 600 also? 500ss? I found the idle down but did not turn it, mine is not idling as high as yours, mine after burping it runs about 2.5
To 2, but I should not have to burp it all the time to get it to idle down. It looks like you can get to the idle up/ down screw as I call it if it turns by hand
But I don't think a screw driver will fit in there without taking something off.

You guys worry way too much. Of course idle is increasing as you break in getting the engine loose. Don't forget the chip knows all & is charge not you. Turn idle down if you want no big deal but chip will make adjustments somewhat. Go head & ride normally now good to go.

Muss-

Yes mine is also a 600 carb engine--2012 -took delivery in August and I started every month (stored inside where it is cool) so I doubt there is any pilot jet issues!

I was not aware that a chip controls things like idle on this sled. I thought that was only on the ETECs.

One thing I thought of is that it could have been running a bit lean. It was 10 degrees most of the time this weekend when I was running and when you mix oil with the gas that ever so slightly leans the air-fuel mixture ration.

I will wait till i get on my second tank to adjust anything. Mine still goes into reverse but I may try the flicking the choke lever trick to lower idle just before hitting the reverse button. I don't idle much anyhow! Need to finish my breakin and hope we get 2 feet of snow ----right now wondering why I bought a Summit! Swamps need cold weather and more snow!

White Dust, you are right. From here on out no more worries. Thanks for that advise and the tech advise as well!

Muss have at it & enjoy the new sled. The chip did way more in break in on my Doo 800back in 2003 than I thought & that is almost 10 model years ago. I'm not sure why dealers don't tell you more about breakin & chip but if they tell you the facts they know the chip won't wake that engine up until acceptable hours are logged. Then 1 day you go holy crap this thing rips after chip retires breakin period!! Just ride no worries.:)
