Ski Doo Clutch

Anyone know what these small discs are at the bottom of the primary clutch? They are below the area where the buttons slide up and down. One is missing. I talked to my local skidoo dealer and they dont know what they are for. This is off a 08 Renegade X 800R.

They are for ballancing the clutch much like weights on the outside rim of your truck. If you havent taken them out yet......DON'T.

I'm thinking that they should be marked for position ? Since you have 1 out already furthermore they are of unusual shape ? So putting them back in the exact position may be important ?
mikes99ss what do you think ? I'm thinking they need to get back with the step in the hex in the original position that it was in ? Better yet did you take a picture before removing ? I don't know maybe that is an install tool feature ? From time to time mine does the SkiDoo " Death Throb "....

Each part of the clutch has an arrow on it. When it is time to reassemble you need to line all the arrows up.

I didnt remove the one that is missing. I took it apart for cleaning and to replace some other parts in the clutch and noticed that there were two "weights" and one was missing. I have 4600 miles on this clutch and no issues. Knock on wood.

I have never seen anything like that but I haven't been in an 08 clutch yet. Not to ask a stupid question but are you sure one is missing?? If they are balance weights then it may have only taken two to make things good. Because if they are weights they should not easily be removeable. Since the dealer doesn't know anything about them I my self would take something (a knife or sharp file) and carefully try and move one of the other two. Marking the postion wouldn't be a bad thing here. But if it "seems" like that dang thing aint moving then I would "assume" that you are not missing one. Sorry I can't be anymore help on that one. I have seen stamped areas in the bottom of the clutch housing before that appear to be balancing areas but never anything in the area's where the cup rides.

Clutch

I am wondering if they were put in there to help keep the movable part of the clutch more in line with the other clutch face.
When the movable part comes back it could of not lined up correctly so clutch has these pieces to help line the two faces of the clutch. This would only be when the sled is idling with the clutch open all the way.

Don't think they would have used something like to balance a clutch. They usually drill out a spot to get a balance.

Hope this makes some sense. :)

Most likely completely wrong.....

That makes sense, also would that affect belt clearance?

Could they be used just in the initial factory assembly and serve no serviceable purpose? May explain why the dealer didnt know.

They are balance weights, keep them in the same hole they came out of when reassembling ,your crank will thank you. Also your clutch has to be assembled in the same position as it was in,there should be a alignment mark on each piece.(I can,t remember for sure but think their x,s)

So I think we decided they are weights. Sould i be concerned that one was missing, or is do you guys think that was part of the balancing??

Thanks for the responses.
