Ski Doo Odometer

I'm thinking about buying a used 2012 Ski Doo from Arnie Ranta of St. Paul, MN to add to our little fleet. In researching him, I came across some old rumors that he replaces the odometers in his high-mileage rental sleds and somehow sets them to 400-900 miles. I just bought a brand new 2012 SkiDoo GT 1200 4Tec (which I haven't ridden yet and its killing me), and it seems to me that the electronics on these sleds is too advanced for rolling back miles. It is even plausible that he could be rolling back miles on these sophisticated sleds?

I'm not 100% positive on the 4S or etec but on the 08-10, replacing the gauge pod zeros out the mileage or should I say the mileage is determined by the gauge pod not the sled. My buddy had his gauge pod fail on his 09 renegade. Replaced under warranty but his sled reads 400 miles less than actual.

i think a dealer can check the hours on the ECU you could then compare to mileage - 300 miles in 300 hours wouldn't make any sense obviously and that is probably pretty extreme but you might be able to learn something that way.

good luck!

any guy who rebuilds gauge clusters has the software to reprogram most all cars and trucks mi and hrs in less than 5 min to what ever he wants it to say.way more ez than the old days of taking apart the speedo and rolling the numbers.
so I am sure a sled odometer is child's play.
get the vin from sled in question and have a dealer run the vin to get sled history.your dealer marks Hr and Mi every time it is in for servive.
