Ski-Doo rear suspension removal help needed...

Hi All -
Hoping for some advice and/or suggestions regarding removing my rear suspension from 2001 Ski-Doo MXZ600X.

I can loosen/remove 3 of the 4 main bolts with no problem; the rear left bolt will not break loose from the shaft, causing just both to spin. I've followed the owner's/shop guide, but can't get that sucker loose - tightened the opposite side bolt, still no luck. I'm using impact wrench too.

Any suggestions, tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Skidoo

I had the same problem. Tighten the side you can get off, put a little heat on the side you can't get off and try the impact. Mine came right off.

I had the same thing happen to me on a non Skidoo product using an impact driver. We tightened the other side as much as possible and then applied heat to the stuck side. We ended up grinding the bolt off and buying a new shaft.

If you get to the grind the head off part, you still may be able to e-z out the bolt body, might have to add heat also . Could save the shaft & expense.

I think hitting the bolt with a torch for awhile finally did the trick - thanks guys!

you will run into this becasue the shaft "floats" An impact will usally do the job but if you don;t have one. I found that you can put a hose clamp around the inner shaft and get it good and tight. You can then get a good grip on that with a channel lock or a bigger vice grip and you should be able to get the bolt out. When you go to put it back in use a wratchet strap to compress the suspension a little at a time or you will have a heck of a time lining up the holes.

Here is the fool proof way to get it out EVERY time. you say your left bolt won't come out. So remove your right bolt and your front two. the tilt the right rear side of supension until you can see the right rear bolt hole below the mount. Put the bolt back in and tighten the snot out of it. Left rear bolt should losen up...Take it all the way out. now the supension will drop out but the right side bolt will be stuck in the shaft. As said before there is a shaft that floats inside the rear suspension. So take the whole shaft right out. Wrap it in a rag (so it dosent get marred) and stick the shaft in a vise. The remove what would be your right side bolt. make sure you regrease you suspension upon re-assembly as much of the grease will be wipped out in the prosses but it works every time i have done it..

Yeah I hope you mean add a little anti-seize to the bolts, not the shaft. sounds like a good way to buy a new shaft.

i meant the shaft, been doing it forever, i've ran suspensions for 8000 miles this way without a problem.

That may be because you pull the skid frames so often.
Never seize acts to prevent corrosion and galling of threads.
That said there are anti seize compounds that contain lubricants.

i pull my skid constantly. once in spring, about 3 times in the fall (lol) and about once or twice in the winter to check on everything and grease it.
