Skunk Smell Remedy?

So in my attempt to get rid of a skunk this morning, it decided if it was going to die, it would die (and stink) under my deck. Originally the smell was so bad that it gave me the dry heaves carrying the skunk away. It's not that bad now, but still not too good.

Anyone have a good home remedy on getting rid of that stench? It is in some landscaping stones, 10-15 feet from the house. Does tomato juice or some type of bleach combination work? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck. Our dog got sprayed by a skunk about a month ago. It happened under our deck and we have stone under our deck. The dog got a direct hit and the stone had quite a bit of spray as well. We used a straight bleach on the stone. We put it in a sprayer and sprayed the whole area and let is soak. The bleach seemed to work well but it does take time for the smell to go away. The dog is another story. We have tryed everything and after a month you can still get a little smell espcially when she gets wet. The only thing we did not try was tomato juice. We have a Westie and she is 100% white fur. We did not want an orange dog and from what we have heard, the tomato juice would not work any better than the other shampoos that we tryed.

Not a home remedy, but...

See if you can find a product called Nature's Miracle. They sell it in pet stores around here.

It works well knocking down the smell. My vague recollection is that it contains enzymes which "digest" the organic materials that cause the smell.

It worked well getting the smell out of my SUV after my dog got nailed by a skunk on a hike about a 35 minute drive from home.

Yes to the peroxide.. I have also used a product called Odermute hard to find but works well. Its a powder that comes in a little pink box that you mix with water. Had good results with that.

We are on the eastern part of Wisconsin. That sounds pretty cool thou. I have to say our westie is sure a good dog. Even if she trys to take on a skunk. She even chased a bear out of our yard. I did have a talk and explained to her how stupid that was. Lol.
