we have lived in merrill wi for 12 years and saturday my wife and i had just rode our sleds in the drive way from a over night trip when a cop pulled in and starts chewing us out for riding on the street .we live 2 blocks from being out of town to get to the trail .i know you are not to ride on the streets but have been doing it for 12 years with no problems .i even rode past cops before and they just waved .one even lives 1 block away and i go past his house .we go slow and keep it down .i have only lived in 2 other towns in my life and both you could ride any rode as long as it was the shortest way to the trail .when you live in snow country i think this is the way it should be .just wanted to know if the towns you live in are sled friendly or are they like this $%&*&% town .lets here it .thanks

cop might be blowing smoke out of his azz, check to see if town has a ordinance prohibiting riding on the street to acess the closest trailhead !

My town allows you to ride in the "right of way". Just ask the cop nicely to show you where it says you can't ride on town streets.

Went out riding with the wife Sun. morning b4 the warm up. Came back to the state park and as I was loading up the sleds a warden drove up and was taking to the wife. She states that it is only her second time driving (which was true) and that I should talk to me because she only know enough to make it go forward and stop. Both the warden and I couldn't stop laughing.

toby1...Hey maybe he's just pissed cause of that new round a bout we put in! Really it dont suprise me though Wisc. has some pretty strict rules when it comes to off road vehicles/snowmobiles. I been stopped several times and got bitched out. Not anymore though cause I moved to the yoop, you can drive a dang tank down the road here.

Ordinance in Merrill is no sledding in city limits even just going from your home straight to the trail. It's a ridiculous ordinance that groups have tried to ammend over the years. A lot of people do it anyways but once in awhile you get an officer that likes to bark about it.

In Rockland MI you can ride all city streets legally (with respect for the residence) except for the main highway that comes into town which is Hwy 45 and turns into National Ave. You can cross it but you can't ride down the Hwy.

I know the first time to Bergland I was yelled at by a lady because I got off the trail by accident, looking for the gas station. I was going a little ways on a side street. Told her I was sorry, and she didn't want to here it. That was about ten years ago. Have never done it again.

no i did not get a ticket .but the problem will be from now on you know he will be looking for me and it would suck to have to haul my sleds 2 blocks every time we want to ride .i am not the only one that runs the streets in this area .hope he doesnt nab anyone else .the way the snow is melting it wont happen this year by the looks of it .hope by next year he finds some thing real to worry about .

in adams friensship the only way to kt gas station is down street. Cops were waiting having a hay day giving out tickets. NO warnings just tickets!

Rim riding the State Hwys.

We've never been ticketd before IMO because of being out of state. Mostly we were lost because of poor sighnage.[ in the 80's]. But the Mich. State Police sure know how to rip a%s. All were respectfull even after the assult!

I suggest rerouting the trail with the help of the local club you belong to. In the 70's and 80's I did that and the trail ran through my backyard and through my girlfriends yard at the time. 15 miles away. That was worth it!!!!

In LaValle Wi. there are signs everywheres no snowmobiles. Hardly any cops but there are days. They make you walk four blocks if you want to grab a bite to eat. But they sure like selling gas from qwik trip.I would advise going down the trail towards hillbrolo D&D less than half a mile away and they have prem fuel..

You know, it just kills me that the cops or dnr think we like running down the concrete street, or we are doing it to be bad guys. Yea, I like burning hifax and 150$ carbides to look for gas in your one horse town! Do they think these things run on melted snow, or what?!
