I have sleds, boat, cars, jetskis, home, and life with state farm. I would say I get a good rate as 5 other family members use same agent.

Liberty Mutual

We were State Farm and the cost per sled for full coverage was approx 220 per sled State Farm in IL goes by CC's not Horsepower, so when we went to Four Strokes they really wanted to shoot up the cost.

I shopped around, and found that I could (now I get a discount of 10% through my employer) get full coverage for FOUR sleds (97 XCR 600, 99 XCR 440, 2005 Vector, 2006 FST) for 268 per year. Yes thats right all 4 sleds one price. (100 dollar deductible, the rest is all standard).

I had to switch the house and the cars (cars were cheaper than State Farm by 30%) the house was a bit more expensive than previous, but I did add sump pump failure insurance).

Liberty takes out monthly for all insurances in one sweep, and does not charge extra to go monthly, in fact, it seems its there preferred method of Payment. My brother in law just had a self induced flood in his basement, forgot to turn off the water outside, and had a good experience with his claim.

All in all, glad I made the switch, saved quite a bit of money.

Not required in Michigan

I have liability only on my 3 snowmachines at $28 each per year through my home owners policy.

As it is not a law in Michigan and I do not drink and ride anymore ever and we are a no fault state I am considering dropping the liability coverage on my machines.

I just cant stand crooked insurance companys. They are your best friend when the money flows only one way. And you all know what way that is.

No, it's not a Law, but, you are taking your chances in the event something happens & you get involved in a law suit. For $28.00 per sled for Liability coverage, it is in my estimation foolhardy to take such a risk for so little $ especially with such a litigeous society. If in fact you can't stand crooked insurance companies, then why are you paying for sled coverage? Be further advised, Michigan's No-Fault pertains only to Automobile Insurance, nothing else.-Mezz

I also have Liberty Mutual. I pay around $25.00 a month for full coverage on my two '06 Ski Doos, one is an 800 Summit the other is a 550 MXzX, and my enclosed Triton Trailer. That is all I have through them and they are great to work with. I originally called them after seeing an ad in the MnUSA magazine, they also give a discount because I am a member of MnUSA. I would check with them to see if you can get a discount by being a member of a snowmobile club.

I find it interesting that we buy insurance to protect ourselves from being sued, when insurance itself is in fact part of the cause of that problem in the first place.

Whats even more interesting & sadly at that, is there are some folks out there that want to sue for anything at any time & worse yet, there are attorney's out there that handle frivolous cases making a persons life miserable. If you feel that having coverage that protects you from harm is the proverbial dangling carrot which entices that act of being sued, then perhaps you should look at it this way, if you don't carry health insurance, does that mean you won't get sick?-Mezz

Liberty Mutual by far was the best for me and I ended up switching all my stuff over to them after reading an article on the issue.

I guess I should have been more clear on what I meant.

I do not feel that because I have insurance I will get sued.

What I meant was the fact that before there was insurance, when someone was sued, they were sued for a reasonable amount of damages. It was not to the point of wiping someone out and taking everything they own to make restitution like it is now. When a judge had to decide on damages, they would award a fair amount. Now, it is easy for a judge to just award millions because he knows the money is coming out of an insurance companies deep pockets.

IMO- It is a snowball type action that keeps getting worse and worse as more and more people insure more and more of their property.

LIability Insurance

I have all my Wisconsin stuff insured through Auto Owners. I have full coverage on my ski boat, pontoon boat & sea doos. On my homeowners policy I have a $1,000,000 umbrella liability rider to which I added liability on all unscheduled vehicles. To add the unscheduled vehicles to the umbrealla liability policy is ridiculously cheap, $17 per year. I am note sure off hand what the umbrealla cost but I would have that with or without the sleds and quads so there is no incremental cost to me. So for $17 a year I have $1,000,000 libaility on 3 sleds and 2 quads. I have been doing this for about 5 years and have saved about $3,000 in premiums. I look at it as self insurance on the collision and comprehensive. If I lost a sled or a quad, I could replace it with the money I saved (with the exception of the 2010 Grand Touring). If I have multiple losses close together, than I would be screwed. Now when my kids start riding I may have to re-think this.

Famous, I agree with you in part on that point, oh how times have changed There is however, a degree of greed that is spawned by the attorney's representing some of these cases as well as those who are pursuing the suit. Unfortunately, the judge can only go by what is presented to him & case law which has set the precedence of the cases presented.
I can remember the simpler times when folks admitted to their mistakes & took care of them fairly & the third party involved merely wanted to be restored to what he had before the loss. Now everything has an add-on for this that & the other thing. I wish that we could have the simpler times back, unfortunately, that is not going to happen.-Mezz
