Sled registration help in IL

Registering in Wisconsin is a good idea, but just remember.......that day when 9 inches drop in illinois and your sleds are in the garage and you got the itch, you can't ride 'em. Illinois is only $16 for 2 years, but then you have to buy a wis. trail pass. It's a crapshoot my friend. Pick your poison.

You can still operate a sled in Illinois if it is registered in another state. I took this from the Illinois DNR website. You have to be a little careful. Like I said before, I TRIED to register in Illinois, but could not find the engine serial number.

B Covered by a valid registration or license of another state, province or country which is the domicile of the owner of the snowmobile and is not operated within this State on more than 30 consecutive days in any calendar year.

Note that the key words in <font color="0000ff">pman592</font>'s post are the following:
"another state, province or country which is the domicile of the owner of the snowmobile"
So if your domicile is in Illinois, you're screwed!

If you reside in Illinois and get stopped with no Illinois Registration by D.N.R. In Illinois, be prepared for a fine and a huge pain in the butt. Unless of coarse you have a wisconsin license.

Rocketman356, I grew up Between wilton center and peotone. Come winter time the dnr are out pulling people over around that area. They were sitting by the Country Place bar waiting for sledders to leave last winter. Don't see them all the time but there out there. They usually don't cut you many breaks either.I would just go to the currency exchange and ask them what you have to do. I know it's a little extra but so is getting a ticket.

Ok Polaris if that is the case just register in both states because I'm not buying those ugly azz Wi.stickers. I haven't rode down there in a few years. If the DNR didn't zero in on us 4 minor fines how would they justify thier payroll here in the Land of crummy roads and high tolls.

Rocketman356,Yeah you would think they would have something better to do. It's all about bringing in revenue. I don't even want to get started about taxes and toll roads and crummy roads. There's a reason why I like getting a way to the UP on vacation.

I have been stopped by the dnr twice in Illinois. Once in Manhattan close to the bike trail but he gave us a verbal warning. He said it was too cold to write anyone a ticket. That was last winter. Then I got pulled over by the dnr in Shorewood on river rd. I was doing about 60 and a truck coming the other way pulled infront of me with his lights on. Asked me if I stickers I said yes and showed him and he said have fun.

Just register it in IL and be done, and buy a Trail sticker for WI or MI not a big deal, you probably have <font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font><font color="ff0000">&#149;</font>,000 machine, what is $18.00 for IL reg. then? The best part of WI is the ride through to the U.P anyway's, so why bother with registering it in WI?
