Sleds Stolen!!!

Yup, all the locks, chains, metal posts, quickcrete and I-bolts in the world won't stop a crook from being a crook. If they want it bad enough they will take it.

Don't get me wrong, the more hassle that stands between them and the item they are taking the better. Theives are lazy (which is why they steal instead of earning their own in the first place) and if your stuff is harder to get then the neighbors stuff they may leave you alone and take the neighbors stuff instead. Then again if its your stuff they want than it's your stuff they'll get.

He**, people steal ATM's for god's sake. you know those things are bolted down something fierce.

Get a small hidden camera and catch them

There was another member that had a 4 place loaded with sleds stolen from his driveway during the day on this site a year or two ago............We have had stuff disappear around the house last summer, i think its neighborhood kids but any way i'am going to purchase a multi camera system that records all the activity around the property and wait and see. Plus i should get some good footage of different animals in my yard.

You also need to have an external locking device (similar to the one someone posted), and not just shut the latch, and place a lock on the latch. Those that place a lock on the trailer latch with the latch down isn't much better then leaving the trailer unlock altogether.

One additional thing I have done to trailers that have tire rims with holes, run a chain and lock through them. I figure if you disable the tire, as long as they aren't packing one with them, just another deterent. Works best on tandem axle trailers to lock the tires together.

I have a 220 line by my trailer, any suggestions on appling a little "jolt" to some unsupecting thief? :)

ouch, I could see myself one night after drinking. Walk over to stand next to the trailer to relieve myself, and accidently touch it with my leg.

now, that would make you wet yourself.

Not trying to cry in your soup here, but while you thought this was a secure process, obviously it was not.

I have often thought that anyone with an old pickup truck could come and hook up the chains tight to the hitch and pull stuff like this away.

Put a post hole in the yard next to the location for the trailer and pour a bag of ready mix in there. Then plant an eye bolt in the cement. Secure to the eye bolt a cable which has been made from cable from tractor supply and string a nice bright yellow hose over the cable. This is a great deterrent, won't scratch anything and anyone who cases the joint will see this and move on.

Yeah, it take a bit to do this, but it's a hassle to get the insurance money which is never enough to replace what you lost.

I see trailers sitting around in backyards and next to houses all the time and figure most are lucky they haven't been stolen. If it isn't locked down to the ground...it can be taken in a heart beat.

Lastly, it isn't a smart idea to threaten death to brainless folks who do this sort of thing because they could end up getting shot somewhere and you have just now proclaimed to the world that you would shoot them if you got the chance. This now puts you into the number one hot seat if something happens to these poor innocent fellas who have fallen on hard times and needed your sleds to ....well you get the picture.

Hey Nostradamus....thanks for the input! Nowhere in my post did I indicate my locks/process was secure/theft proof, I know they were only deterents....and evidently not very good ones. My point was the trailer was locked and some jag(s) with elephant sized yam bags stole it from my driveway while my wife and kids were in the house with the lights on moving around in the evening hours....not 3 or 4 in the morning.

You can keep your "legal" advice to your self as well.

To everyone else, thanks for the the thoughts, advice and keeping an eye out.

I would like to add the trailer has LED lights throughout (except for center rear marker) and there is a issue where after about 5 hours of towing the tail/brake lights dim to (don't ask why....I was in the process of troubleshooting) where they almost go out completely and the rear side (red) marker lights do go completely out. So, if you see a trailer exhibiting this issue it just may be mine.

Thanks again.

Thanks to all. scottking I will keep my eyes open for yours.

I dont have a picture of the Mini Z or trailer handy. Will post later if I can find them.

With the recent discovery of the theft ring in IL and scottking getiing some of his equipment back, I thought I would TTT my post one more time just in case......

No news from my end.

Thanks

I like to tie a cable around the axels giving them enough line to get out on the road befor the axels are ripped out then they ether got to keep pulling the trailer with out wheels or get out and unhook geving me some time to get a coupple shots off
