Snomo Club Suggestions

What is your WI Club doing to welcome new members joining clubs for the 1st time to buy WI trail passes? Seems like an excellent opportunity to draw them in to help with everything. Cap Step has a setting sun so seems to me the last thing a club would do is take the new money but not use new members a resource. Ideas pros or con? What is your club doing?

U could buy a poll and a banana hammock and give them a little dance .
that is a good question.
I would think the clubs would be wise to have a early meeting to discuses event dates the club trip . group ride dates say 1st and 3rd sat of the Mo from club meeting spot at 10 am current members need to volunteer a date or 2 to show up and lead crew. . hot dog trail side day brushing marking/unmarking etc etc any and all club events with dates and times web site info .all on a pre printed hand out .guys can then mark the stuff they may want to check out and show to a event or 2 and get more involved as they get to know some guys.

Good ideas ez. How do you let them know who is who in the zoo? Lots of peeps at meetings that know who does what but new members don't have a clue. Club rides ok if that flotes your boat but how do you encourage member ride hook ups outside the club? Most club rides during the week when most people work.

We are not doing anything different. New members have always been welcome in our club. We appreciate and encourage any help that they can give. We offer different club rides throughout the winter and have a Christmas party at our club shed. Whitedust, we'll even accept you as a member. Come on down, it's only a 2 hour drive.

Can you be more specfic and detailed how your club gets newbies involved? I fear new members will attend a meeting ,biz discussed as usual, have a drink not feel needed & never see them again. They probably won't attend more than 2 meetings if they don't get involved & will feel the club has it all covered without them.

I am not big on club rides my self but a lot of guy join to meet new guys to ride with . like I said get the dates on paper for all events so new guys have it . include meeting places and times for stuff like marking trail captains already know what needs to be done and how many guys they need so that stuff can be worked out on site.
we have a web site and new members get the address and can check to see if there are rides etc but they will not just look up on there own they need to feel wanted . get them in get them out for marking and the lunch that follows. we have dates already figured out for all our stuff this yr. the big ones are marking/brushing then kick off party/fund raiser . then snowmobile safety training then club trip then the 3 cookouts at new trail shelter. with club ride after. even have tenitive pick up dates.
what is the cost ? 10 bucks and a bit of planning real ez and gives potential members the info they need to participate in the club with out having to ask around a bunch of guys they may not know.
we even put the dates in for sister club big events like kick off parties so even if we are not a fit a diff club may be .
also young guys really want to be in charge of something get them in charge of a small section as soon as u feel like they are ready.
other funny thing in our semi metro part of town. the HS kids have a serious network of friend of friends whos parents or grand parents etc own land .actually a better tool than I ever imagined to have a few HS kids as trail captains. heck they have more time than retired guys and they like the volunteer responsibility and title on there collage applications

As a person who lives out of state but will be joining a club for the sticker and to help as best as I can I would say there are a couple things that can help.
1. Have a easy way to distribute information, whether it be a webpage, facebook, email, etc...
2. Set up activities early in the season so a person like me can make plans well in advance.
3. Offer solid and reliable trail info on the site to keep members and others checking your site. I check those pages numerous times a day leading up to my trips.
4. Offer a diverse type of activities throughout the season and have some of them on the weekends when more riders will be out. I do try to attend club activities when I am up north riding. Whether it be a hot dog roast, a group ride or just a informal meet and greet at a local establishment. Also offer raffle tickets or other type of money makers at those events. The guys i ride with almost always buy those, the money can add up pretty quickly.
5. club stickers? old school patches?
I know many clubs already offer some of the previously mentioned activities but I do think they make a difference. Even if this only adds a handful of active members its better than nothing. Just my .02

With the new WI trail pass we had 12 new members last month with 13 to be processed this month. A couple showed up at the 1st meeting with questions like who wants to ride separate of club rides & who do I see for this & that? It is early so I'm impressed with a few new members showing up at meeting but I didn't see the club do anything to draw them in just handled biz as usual.

I do like some of the suggestions I have read so far.

We do offer rides during the week (every Wednesday), and on weekends. Weekend ride are adult rides on some evenings, family rides and a vintage ride. Anyone is welcome on any of the rides.

I like the idea of scheduling events ahead of the season and having that info ready now. That may be difficult here in central WI with unknown snow conditions.

well that is a crap shoot any place but all u can do is plan it and hope for the best with that understood weather permitting. cant see anyone showing up to a trail ride in dirt. but we did still do our shelter cook outs last winter guys just took there truck instead of a sled

One of the clubs I belong to has Friday night fish fry rides and Saturday all day rides scheduled for every weekend. We meet at a certain place and ride from there. We also do one night overnight rides as well as a 2 night weekend overnight rides.

The events are posted on the clubs website and Facebook page.
