Snowmobile accident near Silver City

Very sad. We came upon this as the DNR and cops were just getting there. When we left the ambulance had just pulled up. From talking to a lady there, she hit a guy wire from the power pole. (Accident occurred just south of silver city on the trail that runs along the highline). It looked like she was on an older sled (mid-late 90's). Sled was still wrapped around wire. I have been trying to find the details but can't find anything on the Internet. Really hope she was ok like some of the reports on here are saying. Very sad.

Idk how the accident happened but I did notice there was no reflective barriers or even yellow plastic sleeves on the wires... Seems like there should be when the snowmobile trail weaves through them...

YAmiYooper...that's the accident scene and that's what happened...
Chevy, if you hear of anything else, please let me know. I'd still like to reach out to the step dad and family if we could.

So sad and tragic. Sincere thoughts and condolences to family and friends involved. So young,,,,, hits home hard as I have 16 and 17yr old boys who ride.

Windingtrailgal - So sorry your husband and friends had to witness this but I'm sure they did everything possible for her and I have a feeling she knew people were caring for her at that time.

As bobsledder said - " I found solice when a fellow JD'r told me that those who help in those situations are doing what the family could'nt do. God puts us in places for a reason, sometimes it is not pleasant but necessary".

It takes a special person or persons to get involved in a tramatic situation like that. Some people may not engage themselves as much. Your husband and friends involvement and your detailed correspondence is commendable.

Again, most sincere condolences to the family.

Was this Friday or Saterdays accident you were at ?

Art said was trail 1 but was about that correct time. Seems odd that there would be 2 incidences, altho in different trails, so close together. The girl they stayed with was unconscious the whole time. I can't imagine that she would have been treated and released. But no one would be happier thn us to find out that she is OK.

If this is the accident where a girl hit a guywire I believe I read that she was in fact treated and released. Read it on Dootalk or HCS.

Go to Dootalk.com under General Snowmobile Discussion Forum and read the post by Cord titled "got in an accident this weekend......" Girl hit a guy wire and this guy was there for all of it. He says he heard that she was ok.

General Internet consensus is that the girl was ok. I'm glad to hear. Still very scarry. One of the reasons I bought a long track and have been spending more time off groomed trail

First I'm glad she is ok. After reading every post, I could not help but to think back 4 years ago on the very same trail, leaving Silver City headed South toward White Pine. There where 4 riders, I was last my buddy ahead of me. He clipped a guide wire with his right ski doing about 40. The trail was groomed inches from the wire. It was dusk and the wire snapped up and around the power lines. Sparks showerd me as I drove under. He never even lost control of the seld. Just a little wiggle is all I seen. A small bend in the A-arm is all. A little freaked out we took off to White Pine. Once we got home and everyone was gearing down, We told the story only to walk into the house with No power. The whole town was out. We drove the truck down to the site where crews where already working on the Problem.

He was very lucky to ride away from that one, Again I'm glad the young lady is doing good.

Sounds like maybe this wire or wires needs to be marked as mentioned previously. If they had to replace the wire from the incident above, why not put a yellow sleeve or some other visual marking so someone doesn't take there head off. There was a fatality last year or the year before in Kenosha County due to a Guy Wire.

Many years ago someone hit a guide wire & almost bled out with leg wound. We knew something went down blood all over the place on the trail.When we got back to Kontecka they told us the story of what happened. That has been a problem for years.
