Snowmobile club trip activities

I'm about as much of a introvert as one can be but I have an idea even though I scorn social events.

So back in the 70's when snowmobiling was becoming very popular my parents would go on large group rides, and I mean 50 sleds or more. They would assemble everyone but it all revolved around several people hauling sled towable carts. A destination would be chosen and once there they would have a large bonfire, cookout and make a day out of it.....often long into the night. The pictures of it looked like a righteous good time.

My in-laws were big into snowmobiling back in the glory days as well. They had a huge group of friends that rode.

I remember my father-in-law telling me about a trip they took to the UP and back in the 70's and what a production that was. It took them several days, one guy would pull a trailer with fuel cans, another person with a truck and trailer to pick up the broken sleds, etc. etc. Had to be a blast.

We were discussing this as I was telling him that I ride to the UP and back (350ish miles) in a day solo, with 2 stops for gas. lol

Could you imagine being like number 45 or 46 in the trail of 2 stroke smoke oil? you would be gagging so hard LOL

IDK if this has been said or not, but I and many people I know DONT like riding in big groups. Its a PIA. Somebody always breaks down, or somebody doesnt like the speed, or destination. Somebody gets cold, somebody gets drunk, etc.

My max group is 4. But its usually me and 1 other person. We are on the same page as how we want the riding to go.
Same with UTV/ATV in summer.

The last thing I want to do is waste a weekend with good snow farting around with a big group of people.

Totally agree. We did 8 one day a couple weeks back, knowing it was going to be slower, and that was a one time deal.

Okay but this thread is pretty much about group activities and ideas to do with large groups.

??????????? I guess some people are just naturally sociable, some not. "Oddball" seen this very same thing in "Kelly's Hero's"! "Definitely the antisocial type"

Idk why but I noticed there are many big groups riding together this year. 15 riders more of a norm than small packs of 4 or 5. This has been noted by trail reporters and restaurant owners that I talked to. Seems strange to suddenly see the larger group phenomenon. Questions in my mind is that’s a lot of planning to organize these rides. I like being informal shoot a text or email with a day trip see who wants to ride? Never more than 5 ready to ride on a given date. If no one can make it I still ride but scale back since alone.

I understand, but I was giving a reason why participation may have been declining. You cant plan activities for large groups if you dont have a large group.

I too am somewhat surprised as you are whitedust? Perhaps these are club rides, or maybe just club members groups? Puzzling to me for sure, as I thought times had changed. However, I see this increase of groups, of whoever, as being very good news! People being involved snowmobiling, no matter the size of the group, or number of riders, is what is needed! Snowmobiling needs numbers to insure good future of the sport!

Our club plans a couple club trips up north every year. Last few years participation has been pretty low. In last month's meeting there was some discussion on coming up with some ideas to help boost participation.

All of you that are in clubs that take trips, are there any specific activities you plan or anything?

Drinking, gambling and smoking; what the heck state are you from?

Just joking a tad.
