Snowmobiling: Sport or Hobby?

I was riding with friends the other day and as often happens on a ride, I'm having random thoughts about most anything that pops into the mind...
"What to eat when we stop" or "Look at this idiot on my side of the trail" and I began to question whether snowmobiling was a sport or a hobby? I think it could be considered a bit of both but if you had to say one or the other, what would you choose?

Complete and total Obsession. It's been my addiction for about 40 years, ever since getting a brand new 1972 Polaris Colt 175 for Christmas. Life has never been the same. It has gone way beyond Hobby and some aspects of it can be considered sport. It's "The way out!" as Poo puts it.

I'd say it's an addiction. Even though I don't get to ride that much anymore, I'm still addicted.

It's a sport addiction. Or, an addicting sport. Either way I'm hooked and have been for most of my life.

Gary...how long have you had this problem? Is it affecting your work? Health? Family life??

Go home...jump in bed, call the doctor in the morning....he will likely prescribe little tiny pills of either the red with yellow stripes or the big green ones....opt for the big green ones....life will get better for you then! :D

Did you know that in Northern Canada, or Alaska, they call these things "SNOW MACHINES".....ever wonder why....??? Aw..oh!! Where did I put that big ole bottle of green pills.....haaaaa, feeling better now......

Hobby unless you're racing then a sport.

Does the PTR count... maybe they should become an "association" "PTRA" then it will count...

Back to the question: Have to go with “cancer-like disease”; hard to get rid of once you have been bitten.

Hi, My name is Brian, and I'm a SNOWMOHOLIC!! It's absolutely an addiction. It's to expensive to be a hobby and definately physically demanding enough (OFF TRAIL) to be a sport. So maybe it's a hobby on trail and a sport off trail. My .02
