It depends on what machine you have. I can only comment on Yamahas (not the hybrids). They all benefit the most from the aggressive model. Other manufacturers may not need as much bite. They give you so much more confidence in the twisties.Thinking about putting a set of the Snowtracker U-Blade Carbide Runners on my Yamaha Apex. My question is will you get longer life than the Woodys Dooly Runners. The Snowtracker is considerable more expensive and wandering if its worth the extra money
If you are riding on ice sure but always see the full ski tracks in the snow while on normal riding conditions.I had the aggressive ones on my 09 Apex they work great the only thing unsettling about them is that the Skis never really touch the snow your basically riding on 3 steel keels took them off and put slim doolies and removed studs ,rides about the same and am happy with it plus i am getting a couple more miles to the gal without all that extra weight.
Dfattack is right on follow his recommendations and you will be very happy with Aggressive STs on Yamaha single keel skis. Don’t buy the semis just don’t perform as well as aggressives for Apex 2011 and up. I have 5000 miles on my STs and bought a complete set as back ups this Fall. Normally you just buy the replacement carbides but all my buds are using aggressive STs and I thought it was a good idea to have spares. Also STs were sold out late last year and were on back order and I don’t like waiting. Buy aggressives and you will be golden. Email Snowtrackers in Canada ask for their rep in Maine he was by far the least expensive for Aggressive STs and shipping was free. I think he is the USA rep for STs a good guy. If that doesn’t work for ya go with Travis at barnofparts.I have been using them for about 10 years now and I love them. I was searching for something that would reduce the Yamaha push that I experienced on all of my Yamaha sleds. In my opinion the snowtracker is the perfect match for the Yamaha sled. I realize some other brands may not need the assistance of these aggressive carbides and as much as I love Yamaha's...they did need help in the corners. I always get the aggressive model, even on my Venture GT 2up. it is important to note a couple of things;
make sure you follow the directions to set up your sled properly. I believe you have to adjust the toe on your skis. If I remember correctly the directions also suggest to adjust the limiter strap to take pressure off the skis. you will have to verify that as I am not a 100% on that one. I don't do that. I only adjust the toe on the skis
The other thing you need to remember is always go straight across railroad tracks and not on an angle. I have a riding buddy who bought a set of snowtrackers after riding my sled. He learned the hard way last year how not to cross railroad tracks with snowtrackers installed. To be fair he didn't see the tracks in the snow.
As far as their longevity...honestly I have over 2,000 miles on each of mine and they still don't need to be replaced. So yes, they are well worth the money. If you look around the internet you will see people either love them or hate them. Some of the haters may have tried them but everyone who loves them use them.
hope this helps
I bought a set of aggressive ST to try on my 2012 Apex XTX, put just over 500 miles on them, SOLD them and went back to my Tuner's skis with 4" and 6" carbides. Got just over 9000 miles on my Apex with tuner skis riding the trails of Northern Wisconsin.
Curious as to why you sold??
