OK so the past few days have been very BAR busy here
now up to 12 different bears so far this yr, lower than my average(about 17 by now)

But still a very healthy population if bears here
I had one very small young female, that's is on her own for the first full yr now, was kicked out from mom last May, and this yr she is in Heat, and bringing all the boys around trying to get lucky with her.
her main follower is a old male of mine 16 yrs old and a BIG bear, right now 450 lbs or so, and she is MAYBE a 100 lbs IF that
I feel sorry for her, as he doesn't care what size she is, as long as he gets one off her!

she also has 3 more males following behind him, and its like a train behind her all hoping to get lucky, and keeping her on her toes running in circles to not get cornered
as its a full time job staying ahead of these boys for her!
she has them running in circles a few hours a day in my yard at times!

and I just had my first female with cubs show up today, she's been coming here for a long time, and tthis yr has 3 cubs , which now make for 16 cubs I seen her have here!
she got trapped last yr and relocated over 100 miles away last Nov
and since she was going to have cubs, I gather she denned where they let her loose, and had to wait till cubs big enough for the journey back to her home range!
when she didn;t show up here in MAY or June, I was beginning to think something happened to her, so was a nice surprise today to see her show up again with some new kids!

a new male today too, just kicked out and on his own this yr now, has some very bad hair, stress from being on its own, should all grow back before Fall gets here !

there still hanging out together even though one is a little larger than the other one , there the same age though



and my Momma bear and her 3 cubs, not the best pic's of cubs but all I got on trails cam's so far, I am sure I will get more in next few days

Thanks for sharing. Always like your pics and stories of your black bears. Your big male just might be pushing 500+. Hes showing all the signs of a very large mature bear, no neck, wide rump, belly 1 foot from the ground, ears look small and a very large noggin.

HAHA< well, I didn't post the Big males picture, the larger bear above is a female, and the one with cubs this yr , she is a very large female and at times in her life she has been close to 400 lbs, which is very big for a female black bear


but in the pic above she is maybe 225 lbs or so, she is shorter and more rounds than the other bears which are all males, there longer but very lean right now

Bears are one of the hardest animals to judge age/and size on them , due to different angles make them look larger or smaller and just going by the basic, 's , just doesn't ever work that well, when comparing heads/ears or?? as they come in so many shapes and sizes, that things don't really ever work out that well when trying to field judge them for most folks even very experienced folks will still tell you if there honest, that bears are super hard to judge and most all folks OVER estimate weights and sizes

here is a few picture's of the larger male I spoke of above, from a few days ago, not the best pic's but the most recent one's I have
and then a pic of the tiny female he been dogging with the rest of the males, he mated with her in my drive way, she is under a 100 lbs, looks like a cub next to him(she is actually on her own for the first time, since being kicked out of mom's care the summer before)

and last is a pic from a video clip, so not the best quality, but does show the difference in there size, he about squished her mating with her! poor little girl !
