South Range - Greenland ride - 1/27

Just got back from a 95 mile ride from South Range to Greenland via 13 and then back on 3. There is plenty of snow, however it is all sugar. If wondering whether the Keweenaw Trail Services (poor to fair) or Superior (good to excellent) club's account of trail conditions on MSA is more accurate, it is most certainly the Keweenaw Trail Services. Not on account of lack of grooming as we met two different Superior groomers as we were riding. However, five sleds later and you could not tell the trail had just been groomed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's how it is. Going to try to ride up in Keweenaw County tomorrow morning, but completely expecting much of the same.

Dropped in Phoenix and did a few hours of riding during midday today - rode nearly every mile of trails 130, 132, 134, and 135 while trying to minimize the amount of time on 3. Despite the admirable grooming attempts (2 passes through Phoenix in four hours), the few miles of trail 3 we rode was at best in fair condition due to the sugar snow and heavy traffic. The groomer did two passes on 130 at the same time we were riding, so for us it was in very good shape. Trails 132, 134, and 135 hadn't been groomed since at least yesterday and were at varying levels of fair to good. Overall by being able to minimize the amount of time on 3 it was a much better ride than yesterday.
