IMO go....... all the area has snow & cold temps but I would not plan on epic snomo miles but enough snow to go for a short spin without too much carbide or hyfax damage. If you know the unplowed FRs system they look good & smaller lakes good to go for lake runs. Good ice for ice skating & enough snow for XCountry skiing & gravity sleddin. Ice fishing always fun so time shift & do different winter outdoor activities lots of fun to be had if you diversify & eat at your faverite places they will be more than happy to see you. JD's forecast does not show anything worth waiting for so if Xmas & NY is your time use it well.:)

I kind of figured that is a true estimate of conditions. Plan on coming up Thursday through New Years and not going to go any long trips. Thanks for the update.

I just came in from a 20 mile ride and rocks are the problem. My area is not ready, the first snow was better than this last one. I hear Twin Lakes is better and heading nort. Greenland/Mass needs more snow.

Lenny speaks the truth. We rode the Nichols trail (3) on Saturday from South Range down to the Trestles and the rocks were really showing through near the Firesteel. We took 13 from Twin Lakes down to the first gate that was still closed, as the groomer had not been on it yet. We had fun "breaking trail" about 8", but the further south we went the snow was thinner. Twin Lakes and north were the best in the area. Passed Richard in the groomer and pretty much had the trail to ourselves, only saw three or four sleds all day. Freda loop was groomed and did not have a track on it but we were out of time for the day and did not run it.

I'm getting to the point where I can ride our lake & ditch bang to unplowed forest roads just to empty gas tank & put in fresh gas then park & wait out the next 10 days & hope JD forecast can find some snow for us. WOW!!.... this has been a difficult year for the Wi northwoods snowwise & I'm getting to the point where you just have to make do with scabby conditions because time is running short & can't hold off thaws that are bound to come sooner or later.:(

If you consider the central U.P. the Marquette/Ishpeming area supposedly got like 15" plus........65 mi. east of there (us), less than 1/2 of that.........

snow is holding up good in ishpeming according to our neibors up there . one more day and we will be up st our camp. We ride connecting trails home owners have made on their property. Snow is still fluffy and some big drifts . Snowed all day yesterday not much accumilation but a couple inchs everyday add up.Still after eleven years i get butterflies heading north.

Trails are groomed and sled are out everywhere this weekend in the far Western UP, conditions are thin but it has not stopped a lot of people from going. Played friday night in Hurley and there were few groups of sledders in and out. I have seen trailers all over in Ironwood at the motels/hotels and sleds gassing up at the local stations. Talking with my boss last night and he said there has been quite a few years were it's low snow until say the 2nd week of Janurary and then it hit's hard.

Lets hope your right. Jan. is going to be the snowiest on record!
Maybe I shouldn't have said that...
