Stock Doo carbides

I have a new 2011 in the garage waiting for snow, everything is ready to go but I got to thinking the carbides on it
Are the stock Ski Doo carbides that come with the sled. I have always run Stud Boy or Woodys, are the Doo carbides
Decent? Or is it worth putting on a pair the Stud Boy

Though I don't know for certain, I've got to believe that much like with oil, Doo isn't in the business of making carbides. They're likely made by somebody else (though don't know who). If it were me.....I'd run them till they need replacing and put the money saved toward something else -- a pair of Bergstrom Triple Points (or whatever your carbide of choice may be), a tank of gas, etc.

Ski-Doos come with Woody carbides. Most likely the stock ones are 4 inchers. They work fine although what I did (and I recommend doing this) is drilling out the outer edge of the ski (you can tell where to drill by looking at the ski) and mounting the stock carbides on the outer edges and then get some better carbides for the center. I recommend Bergstrom Triple Points. Good luck.

How will that change the handling ?

I have used johnmaster.net carbides on my arctic cats for two seasons and they will last a third easily....the stock ones needed to be replaced almost every year. This is the first year they offered them for the wife's GTX, so I bought them. Haven't mounted yet, but if they are anything like the arctic cat ones, at least I won't be waiting as long at the stop signs.

With the Bergstrom Triple points, you get shims and ski savers. It does a great job at preventing darting and it corners great with this set up. Putting the stock carbide on the outer edge of the skis may help a bit in loose packed snow, but mostly protects the outer edge of the ski from wearing down.

I have a skidoo also. I am with misty-pines. I would drill and add the carbides to the outside of the skies. I run woody's on the inside and outside. My sled handles like it is on rails. The stock carbides are 4" and 3/8 rod. Your sled will not handle very well with just the stock carbides down the center. The stock ones also ride really deep in the ski so if you don't watch your carbides, you will end up wearing into your ski. I run woody 1/2" x 8" inside and out on a renegade.

i have '11 renegade 1200 4-tec and had the dealer do the exact same thing stated above when it was new. Had a 500ss that i traded in that had that setup too and it handled great.

I've done the same thing to my last two sleds. Love the bergstrom triples.

Well, I ended up putting on a pair of new Woodys 6" down the middle and drilled the holes on the outside and put the stock 4" on
The outside, thanks for the tips I never realized skis only came with 1 carbide down the middle as all my other sleds were bought used
And already had the outside drilled out by someone else. Why don't they just do that to begin with out of the crate! Or at least put
6" carbides on, those stock 4" ones looked weak. Thanks again for the help and happy new year.
