Stolen Sled May be in Phelps Area

I had a sled stolen Christmas Day in 2008. It still irks me today. I was informed that the guy who I believe stole the sled may keep it stored near Phelps and is on a trip there right now till New Years. I have never been able to prove this guy has it and have not been able to find it. A informant told me that he may be using it up in Phelps. The sled is a 2002 Z440 Sno Pro. It is a fan cooled machine that may have characteristics that may make it stand out.

Green Powder coated skid.
Clicker fox shocks all the way around
a Frankenstein stitch that fixed a rip in the back of the seat.
the front right corner of the quarter panel has damage to it.
I intstalled a old school belt holder underneath the clutch. I used two rivets to install.

Below is a picture of the sled and what it looked liked. The stickers were all taken off prior to it being stolen.

The sled was reported stolen in Morris, Il in Christmas of 2008. Police report filed with Morris Police Department.

It might be a good idea to put a call into the DNR Service Center and give them a "heads-up". They can put out the word via radio and computer updates in vehicles. Let the pro's handle it!

Good luck and I hope you catch the guy. I will be in the area from the 28th to January 5th and I will keep an eye out for it. Since it was stolen 5 years ago, who knows what it could possibly look now but the green skid looks fairly unique.

5 years ago? It's probably changed hands several times by now. It could be ANYWHERE. Probably parted out for cash. Good luck, I hope the loser gets what he has comin' to him. You know what they say about Karma.....

What is the Phelps connection? If some guy bought it how would he know if stolen? He has to pay tax & register in WI.

The only real connection is that the guy who I believe stole the sled goes to Phelps on a trip every year between Christmas and New Years. Let me back track......

My brother owns a snowmobile shop in Morris Il. The night of the 23rd, this guy is in my brothers shop with a old old polaris pos that needed a bunch of work. My brother completed the work for him and he came to pick it up. I was there with both my sleds in the shop getting ready to go for a ride with a buddy. This guy starts talking to me about how he lives down the alley from my parents and knows that we are big snowmobilers and yada yada ya. My buddy walks over to the sno pro (first time riding a sled) and asks from across the shop wear the key for the machine was. I from the across the shop tell him that their is no key for the sled because it is a race machine, just pull it and go. This guy over hears the conversation. That night we take the alleys back to my parents to park the sleds. We drive right past this guys house. I purposely put the 440 in front of the crossfire wedged up against the porch. The next morning sled is gone! Someone walked from the corner of my parent property from the alley on a direct line to the 440, picked up the front end, started the machine and took off. didn't even look at the brand new crossfire. They new exactly what they were doing.

Back up again, this guy told me he was going on a trip with his leaving Christmas day. That was the last time I have seen the sled. Police questioned him and that was as far as it went.

A month ago a guy tells me this guy stores a sled around Phelps and rides every year with a group of guys. That is really the only connection that I have or possibility if he even still has the sled. He is a pretty stupid guy so I imagine that he may have kept it.

To this day he has never set foot in my brothers shop.

If theres a group sleddin together in phelps I would check some of their facebook pages for pics of the trip. You just might get a lucky shot of your old sled in a pic. Good luck.

If this were my sled, I would travel to Phelps with a print out on your sled and hit every single gas station in the area...can't be that many, and let the station owners know that you will pay a nice reward for finding the sled.

Sleds need gas, eh? Powder coated skids are rare.
