Studs vs. No studs!

Has anyone used icemaster screw in carbides. Thinking about using them on a 1.6 cobra.
You will be disappointed as they will pull out, and damage the track lugs as they start to pull out. Friend of mine ruined a track with them. Ice ripper track the best way.

I have a 1.5" single ply track. I have Fast Track SP studs and have never had one pull through. I have never ever had a fast track stud pull through. They have bigger heads. Love it!

Any straightliners need studs, if not you will get owned by studded sleds

I got an update for ya.....go to the SNOWMO MAG and look up the shoot out....the XF 8000 was late to the show and was the ONLY UNSTUDED SLED......guess what...it beat all comers even turbos off the line...studs are not needed.....I knew ya wouldn't believe me so look it up yourselves....studs slow you down.....period....unless you gots double the HP of a 600....its physics

at cruiser fest.....shaved ice.....no studs....I ran 1st, 2nd and 3rd place...everyone else had studs...no contest....I win.....see ya

His machine, his decision. I will never stud one that I ride. You just need to get use to riding without. There has only been 1 or 2 times in the last 4 years I maybe wish I would have had them for PART of a trip. My son will start riding with me this year at age 12. With his lack of experience, I may stud his with the bare minimum. But we will see.

I would say if your buds are studded and you ride together a lot, stud. If not give yourself a little distance for stopping. Had guys with studs stop fast and end up getting hit from the back. I have had them in past and currently not studding.. I find tracks last a little longer without.

We've been on both ends of this because our customer base is from all over. If you ride in icy conditions with low snow such as MN or WI studs are for sure a safety factor. If you primarily ride the snow belt of the U.P. then studs are a waste of money and furthermore can cause plenty of damage. Your area should dictate whether or not you need studs. Nobody is wrong here, it's personal preference and all about the amount of snow.

Ive got an 06 with 196 studs (bought it like that), last year purchased a new Axys Pro S non studded, except for stopping I had no trouble with the new sled, and yeah I know that sled set up and suspension has to go along with it, but Ill never have any studs in the track again.

I am curious as to how I will need to set up my suspension in order to be faster than guys with studs on the ice?

1992 & forward I used to stud everything. Since about 2011, and these newer tracks, ripsaw and other, I've been shocked at how well I hookup without studs. Literally - blown away surprised. I have plastic templates, and 1/4" and 5/16" cutter tools that will never get used. I'll never stud again.

Exactly personal preference in WI not needed in WUPMI.

Let me guess - Cruiserfest is a summer event and they just threw down a little shaved ice for lube. In such an event studs would not help much if at all. Anything will hook up. Take out the coupler blocks for max weight transfer and launch. Not the same as a swept off frozen lake in the winter.
