Anode for Well Water?

Our Sulfer Smell was determined to be a problem with the water heater as only the hot water had the smell. Plummer was out and removed the anode, said it was for city water use only and he always remove it for houses with well water. In under six months the water heater started leaking and had to be replaced (4yrs short of its rated life). He also removed the anode from the new water heater and put in a plug. Should I go find an anode made for well water or not worry about it? Shouldn't the plummer know about these other types of anodes and provide them with a new water heater job? Where do you find the well water anode in the Central MN area? What type\material am I looking for?

For what it's worth, I run 2 Peerless big blue GAC 10" filters with a softener . The filters are plumbed in parallel vs series, that way the restriction ( flow ) is not weakened too much. It seemed to get rid of the smells I had, i change them 2x's a year.
Interesting read.

Oh yes the old Elkhorn/Lake Geneva rotten egg water smell. Lots of good info here & you will need to clean up well & entire plumbing system. Best solution for me was Kinetico metered twin tank systems so you never bring smelly water back into your house water supply & septic field friendly. Kinetico will come test your water for free recomend best solution. I have been using Kinetico for 20 years never had a single breakdown at 2 homes. No matter where I live now & future a Kinetico wil be installed & whatever is there will go in dumpster. Only Kinetico for me best of best.
