I would strongly urge you to adhere to the Keweenaw ATV Trail map. We don't want to have problems with being able to keep this trail open. Keep in mind, there is a difference in DNR Designated & DNR Endorsed trails. The Hancock to Calumet route is a DNR Endorsed trail as is the Freda trail. The Bill Nichols Trail (3) is a DNR Designated trail which would fall under the DNR's rules. Keep in mind, I am going by what is published on the Keweenaw ATV Trail Map.-Mezz
Mezz.
I have to argue the katv map.hancock to calumet and Freda have been open for years to two wheelers. As a matter of fact the Mich. dnr issues a map for those trail that specifically states open to motorcycles.Unless something has changed the katv is incorrect.
Here you go, now you can take this & argue about it with the DNR......
Mezz,
I'm not arguing or trying to start an argument with you about 2 wheelers on the KATV trails. Just a question, do the trails fish633 is talking about run through private property or is there a chance the DNR map is correct and these trails are legal to ride with 2 wheelers? Again not trying to start an argument, just a question. Doesn't matter to me either way, if it's legal I'd like to ride in the Kee but otherwise I'll just keep riding the Mi-Trale trails.

Just call the MI DNR field office in Baraga for the straight scoop (906) 353-6558.
I am not 100% sure, but I believe all trails that use state owned land can be used on a 2 wheeled vehicle. The trails from Hancock to Calumet and then back down to Hancock from Calumet are state owned. As is the Bill Nichols which runs from Houghton to Mass City.
KATV club might have just decided to error on the side of caution and indicate no trails north of the bridge were legal for bikes, but like I say, check with the MI DNR office for the straight scoop.

Guy's, I cannot be 100% certain on the questions you raise regarding the legal use of cycles & where, again, all I can point out is what is stipulated on the map. My recommendation is to contact the Local MI DNR to find out. I will however say, it is pretty clear what is stated on this map & it was made clear by John in another post & thread that this was indeed a concern by the landowners whom allowed the trail to go through for only ATV & Side x Side use. I am also reasonbly certain that this would not have been published if it were not so. I know fish isn't happy about that from his previous posts, I also know there are a number of other cycle riders that may not be happy about this, however, this is the rule. There are different rules in different areas throughout the UP regarding what can or cannot be ridden & where. We all know how rules change in a New Yyork minute, isn't it possible that the DNR's publication came out before it was known what area's were involved with the development of this trail & it's requested useage? All I know is that the Club worked their azzez off for 7 years to make this happen, it should be respected. As I suggested earlier, contact the local MI DNR to verify where exactly the 2 wheelers are allowed. I'm merely a mezzanger, no harm, no foul.-Mezz
