i have a 2011 chevy 1500 with 5.3 6 speed auto (55000 miles)and wondering how much a chip really helps. i had the piston and ring upgrade done in my truck because of the excessive oil usage. since they replaced it, it has tanked on fuel economy. i went from 18mgs easily to a best 15.7 mpgs and that was in late summer. dealer said theres nothing they can do everything is normal per there computer scanner. pulling a two place trailer now is a lousy 10 mpgs. alot less than before.

i cant afford to trade in at the time for something different and looking for a solution to help. anyone have good results with the super chip?

Good luck. I've had 3 of 5.3's. None of them have come even close to the old 5.7 on power, mileage, or towing. I'll never own another 5.3. Many problems, lifters, rings, oil pump trouble common on 5.3's. I had 3 of the 350/5.7's, and no problems.

Deerhunter - I have a Superchips Flashpaq sitting here in my desk at work. It is for 1996 to 2008 GM gas trucks. I used it on my 01' Silverado and noticed gains on any setting - towing, economy etc. - you can tune it any way you'd like. I am in the Appleton area and will ship it to you for $100 - the new ones are $300. Let me know. You can call me or text me at 920-428-0001.

I also thought the 5.7's were way superior to the 5.3's in everything you mentioned, including torque. Having a few of the 5.3's and being dissappointed in mpg, towing "feel" and overall performance, I switched to the ford ecoboost and love it. If GM still offered the 5.7 I might still be driving a chevy..

I've had 2 5.3's in the past 6 years, not a problem with either of them. Ultimately, if your looking for power to haul "heavy", then you need a bigger truck, period.. Hauling/towing, mileage is always going to dwindle. If you want economy, then by a Prius. LOL!-Mezz

sjb That is my take also. 2016 Ford with 3.5 eco boost coming. They pull strong. Will be my first new Ford truck after 6 Chevy's, and 1 GMC. We take very good care of our rides. No matter what they are.
