superior Ice

Intersting stuff...especially because this article says that "the world's largest freshwater lake was 87.1 percent iced over as of Tuesday" and John said it was about 96%-98%. That a pretty big difference.

I was basing my statement on this image from yesterday.

To me it looked like only 2-4% of the lake was "purely open", as noted as solid, dark dark blue. Any grey or white denotes some amount of ice in/on the lake.

Thanks John...I'm going with the guy who looked at the satellite 5 mins before posting!
I wish it was open much less but take your word for it.

Ice was as far as the eye could see yesterday from most of the north shore near Duluth. Today there is bright blue waters with east winds forecasted for tonight which means it will be pack-iced in tomorrow. Point is the ice moves quickly and the lake will turn up warmer water from its depths with any amount of wind.

I wouldn't worry too much about the ice on Superior. With the warmer temps and a possible storm I am confident she will let up and start producing. My only hope is it happens before my week long I have planned in a week and a half!
