Surgery for My Daughter

For a lot of us this site is not only a great place for fun and info, but it’s also a good source of encouragement. That being the case, and even though our family has great support from family, church and local friends, I couldn’t go through the next chapter in life without sharing this with all of you.

We’re traveling to Madison early Friday morning so my daughter can undergo brain surgery. She is 19, and when she was almost 2 she had a kidney disorder that caused her to have a stroke which damaged part of her brain and causes her to have seizures. The goal is to remove the damaged part of her brain and for her to either have the seizures eliminated or significantly reduced. The surgery is expected to start sometime around 7:30AM and be done around 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon. The recovery time in the hospital is expected to last about a week.

I know there is a wide range of spirituality represented amongst all of you, but if you feel so led could you please pray for her? We have been praying for the surgeon, that he doesn’t make any mistakes, for her strength both during the surgery and her recovery, and for the long term success of the surgery that she will in fact be seizure free.

Her name is Bethany, and below is a great photo of her from Senior Prom about a month ago.

Thanks,

Gary

Gary, what a beautiful girl she is. We live in a time where surgery for conditions such as this would not have even been tried only a few years ago and now is nearly routiine. She looks strong and confident and surely the Doctors she has feel they can get her where she needs to be on this with some really good work. Remember that they are not likely to try any of this if they didn't feel very confidently that she would be able to recover and improve her condition...or they simply would not try.

So just remember that everything is in her favor here and she will be fine. Take it to the bank! Keep us posted and we will be thinking of her for a speedy recovery.

Thoughts and Prayers for Bethany. Gary, my brother had a similar operation years ago and it was a complete success, he's been fine ever since. Be sure to let us know how she is doing following surgery.
