Thanks everyone. Was a long day but a positive outcome so far. Surgery ended up taking just over 81/2 hours then recovery was longer than expected (4 more hours). She has been really irritable, groggy, tired and nauseous, but now she seems to have settled in so we’re praying for a good night of rest. The initial evaluation of her mental status and physical abilities seems to show no problems so things are looking good. I’ll give you all an update in a day or two.
Thanks again, it was great to check in a couple times during the day on the smart phone and see all the support!
Glad to hear everything went well. I have a son with a kidney disease and no cure. He is doing fine now,but I no first hand what your going through. It was the most helpless feeling in the world. You just need to trust the doctors, take care of you self( eat and sleep),and lean on anyone willing to help. Best of luck,Paul
Gary,I was given some great advice by my sons lead doctor 15 years ago,I will never forget what he said.." Life is just a poker game,it's not the cards your delt,it's how you play them."with out getting all misty, it sounds like you've played a great hand!!!
Gary, hope things are going well with your daughter. Thought I saw that you were logged in earlier today so I took that as a good sign. Major surgery so I'm sure it will take some time but hopefully the results will meet or exceed expectations.

Thanks, things are going well. She was pretty out of it most of yesterday but by dinner she was coming around. Had a good night so hopefully today will go well too.
I was online a few times yesterday thank goodness for smartphones, nice to be able to surf the web to help the time go by.
Hows this for a weekend: Eight hours of brain surgery on Friday, discharged from the hospital and home on Monday? Most of my sled trips last longer than that! Thanks everyone, we know the surgery and recovery went well, it will be 6 to 12 months before we know if it was sucessful, but we're so thankful she's healthy and there are no complications at this point.
I think the medical community is learning that the hardest place to try and get feeling better is a hospital (when their immediate services are no longer needed)! Glad to hear she is home and can rest and recover in the comforts of home.
Excellent news, and as John said, nothing like the comfort of home. Things appear to be headed in the right direction. Continued prayers for a full recovery.-Mezz
That is great news Gary! I had a hernia surgery 2 years ago, and did not recover afterwards very fast, throwing up due to the anesthesia is not much fun, I was so bad they kept me overnight! So I know what your daughter went through as far as the nauseua. Glad to hear she is at home already!!!
