Suspense mounts....or not?

Our local Fox station is supposed to be releasing a "new updated winter weather outlook" today at noon, not that I put much faith in long term forecasts especially from media outlets but.... is it an attention getter to get you to watch news? is there truly a "new" winter weather outlook? what will it be for all of us snow buffs? good? bad?

They've been hyping up record cold and snows now for a month or better.
I'm still waiting. Not seeing much in the 10 day gfs to get excited about.

Sure looks some cold rolling in the end of the month, it would b nice to get things froze up, then let the snow fall. I always get excited this time a year.

I found one on X with a weatherman and scientist. They went back to 1987 and picked seven years where the weather was close to this year. After some very detailed explaining, they were saying that the UP could get 250-350" snow [lots of LES] The Northwoods was in that as well. Also said temps would be colder.

I don't pay attention to any of it.
I hear ya! although my business relies on snow in winter, NO WHERE NEAR as heavily as Northwoods, people will come in and say I bet you are hoping for snow this year, my response is.... as long as there is in the Northwoods so I can ride...I'm good. Been way too long down here without it, I plan more for no snow than anticipating it will here, So like your comment....I dont pay attention to it any more but do keep close eye on northwoods forecasts LOL

All the hype is oozing from so many weather forecasters & predictors. Despite how other winters have performed, none are a clear indicator as to how things will pan out. As far as what they say about our winter here in the UP, that figure is a shot in the dark. Last year's snowfall in Keweenaw county was 315.25" which was the 3rd snowiest since 1988/89. Houghton county was 304.50" The 54 year average in Keweenaw county is 240.80". If the temperatures get as cold as they are "predicting", this could lead to early ice cover on the big lake which will diminish & eventually shut down LES production. There are too many variables to consider for the long range. End of the day, we will get snow, how much, where & when remains to be seen. I am hoping for average, that's more than enough.

Be nice it there was good snow up and down the whole state. There is a lot of nice riding through out Wi also a lot of work put in. Here's to hoping that all the states that have snow trails has a good snowy winter. The good news it looks like the weather pattern swap may be happening earlier this year but we will have to see if it holds.

would be nice to see it up and down the state, just has been way too long down here without it I gave up on anticipating on it, when it is here it is so short lived, I think the longest the trails have been open down here in last 10 years was around 2 weeks. I would be nice to see yes but Im really pulling for the north woods of Wisconsin and the U.P. as they are far more reliant on it than we are, they really need a gift from mother nature.

I am not 100% sure where you live Euphoric. I remember back in 21 it was an excellent winter in northern IL and southern Wi. The trails were open for about 6 weeks and we're in excellent shape but yes overall not consistent at all. I know 2 winter's ago the only riding we did in Wi was in Walworth county. Yes it was short lived but had more snow than Vilas had at anytime that year. I had to drive up to the house in St. Germain to drag them back to my buddies in Elkhorn Wi. I will say the trails were excellent and it was a lot of fun riding where I learned to ride sleds. I still remember it taking all day to ride from Elkhorn to Palmyra with my grandparents and now it only took a 1-1/2. It would of been even shorter than that but part of Kettle Moraine really needs a good brushing wow was it tight to get through.

I am in SE Wisconsin and I completely forgot about that year! whitedust was trying to get me out to ride, not only did we have descent snow that year but bitter cold which kept it around. Don't get me wrong I do want it to snow around here, the local watering holes around here are always standing room only, usually good traffic too. I too started riding as well here many many years ago, lived only blocks from lake michigan at the time and could ride right out my parents back yard and pick up trail only a mile or two away. Those were the days down here. We are going to be putting trails in out in east troy dec 6th and from sounds of it will be fighting frost in ground with push of cold air on way. so yeah... don't get me wrong I would like the snow here, just know some areas more dependent than we are, I just hope it holds off just a little bit longer here, we just started working on snowblowers and people would not be happy LOL.

Yeah looks like going from mulching leaves to snow blowing in about 3 days. As of now the weather guessers are saying we could see around 8" on the ground I Southern Wi. By early next week. We shall see if that happens.
