Switch07 on the move!!!

There is a big change brewing for Wendy and me this year. I like to call it semi retirement, my company calls it remote service. As a lot of my friends on JD know, I travel for my company all over the states and sometimes overseas. Well the time has come to change up a bit. Im tired of being alone in motels and away from wifey. I approached my company to be able to go mobile remote in an rv instead of a sticks and bricks permanent home. This was in our plans to be full time rv'rs when I retire anyway, and if I could start early, that's good too. The company agreed and we are on our way to being homeless, lol. Our home sold after 6 hrs on the market with an above asking offer.
Picked up the new 3500 Dmax Wednesday, and the new 5th wheel will be in the end of August. We will be basing out of the southeast and traveling to and from jobs as needed. Biggest thing about this is we will be together and sharing new adventures together. We will come back to Green Bay for Xmas and take a month off to be in the UP for sledding, I can't give that up, lol. We can get a full season of riding in that time then head back south. Will keep our place in Door County to visit in the summer and have for full retirement in the future. We are a little nervous on all this happening, but we look at it as one door closes in life, another door opens........

sweet deal congrats . so do u call door county your permanent address for tax reasons or how will that work being a nomad ? 1 has to be someplace for 6mo and a day to call it home correct ? so technically do u have to pay any state income tax if no place more than 6mo and a day?

My permanent address will be my daughter's house in Depere, and since my company is based in GB, I will continue to be a WI resident for all tax purposes.

My eyesight isn’t that great and for a second there I thought the tag line was “Switch07 on the Run”. That would have been a whole different thread.

Very cool that you were able to swing this kind of arrangement – living the RV life while still on the payroll. I give credit to both you and your employer for being able to negotiate this agreement. Obviously you’re a valued employee.

Ironically, you’ll probably be able to save more vacation for sledding because you won’t be taking time off to be “home”, which will be wherever you’re parked.

Congrats and good luck on this next chapter!!!!

Congrats! Sounds like good gig.
Although don't think I could handle hauling rig like that all time with traffic and way people drive now days. Lol
Any pics of new setup?

Congratulations Switch, it sounds like a great adventure. If it ever snows again in northern Minnesota maybe you could come for a week and ride with myself, Skiroule, and Grub

Absolutely, would like to do that. I'm not giving up the sport, and will always be on JD to keep in touch. We are planning to come back to MN when the conditions are right. Hope we can hook up then.

awesome...I was thinking of the same thing...I was going to run one of these since it has R-19 ceiling and heat pads under tanks for winter sledding....I was wondering why you chose a 5th wheel trailer instead of an all-in-one....I was going to pull a trailer with a spider and tesla in it for getting around towns...what are your thoughts on why you went the way you did....always good to have different views...love the tag axle and the comfort drive on the bus....yes was gonna buy here and with Chris Anderson....I need one for sledding more than traveling

I like the higher ceilings of a fifth wheel over a MH. Also I feel there is more room in 5er. I can unhook and have the crew cab for transportation. I pulled a 38' Montana for a couple years and enjoyed it, so we went this way. My brother in law has a forty foot pusher that they will be tagging us for awhile, so we can compare notes I guess. The new 5er comes in late August, and we ordered loaded with a 5.5k gen, solar, huge residential fridge, dish satellite, and the best of all it's got a 60" led tv for ol Switch to watch sledding videos when it gets too hot down south, lol.

Don't have any summer toys to tow, so that's not a problem. I'll take 4 to 6 weeks off in the winter for my snowmachining. Pick up the inline and head to the yoop and cabin it here and there until the itch is scratched then head back south.

well don't leave me hanging....hows the pusher doing? hows he like it...is 40 too long as there are restrictions at many places when over 38 feet...I was thinking this one but its 45 feet long...not sure yet on length

We wish you the best of everything on your new venture. You will be living the dream of many people. Moving to the UP and owning a resort was Richard's dream so we changed our life in our mid 50's. We are 22 years later in our upper 70's and can honestly say that we have enjoyed our adventure and grateful we bit the bullet. Our best to you and your wife and in your spare time, keep in touch with all of us thru jdee, or when you're in our area, stop in for a visit.
