Switching from synthetic to semi...

OK, I know asking this can be dangerous, but I need to know. I just added another sled to the fleet and it has been running full synthetic. Both my other sleds run a semi-synthetic blend. Not wanting to have 2 oils and have had good experience with semi in similiar model, IS IT NOT RECOMMENDED TO SWITCH FROM FULL TO SEMI? or does it not matter?

Thanks

Did the same thing myself. As long as your new oil meets or exceeds the manufacturer's specs, you should be golden.

Just to be on the safe side, I did run the oil tank way down before filling it with the new oil. But probably isn't necessary when switching from syn to semi-syn.

I have done it with no problems, Just run it down as low as you can and add the semi synthetic.

Run it down low, and refill with the new stuff. Be careful though when running the oil low because you could create an air bubble in the oil line and then you oil pump wouldn't pump oil for a bit if ran too low.

full syn and semi will mix just fine, top it off and run it. Unless the motor calls for full syn, the semi is fine

No problems, as mentioned above.

I've noticed the exhaust valves were actually cleaner with use of semi-syn over the full-syn.

Not to change the original topic but that should mean it's okay
to add semi-synthetic to regular old two-stroke mineral oil without
having to drain out the old oil?

As said pour & go you won't have a problem. Never seen any oil clot up maybe 15-20 years ago but not modern day oils syn or mineral. I poured Blue Marble oil on top doo syn oil & you can't get any different than that no mixing problem. Buddy used to take all his odds & ends of left over oil shook it all up in the gallon bottle poured on top of doo syn ran great no problems. I would not run oil down as you might form air bubble...... Just pour & go. Too much overthinking oil is oil syn or mineral.
