We have an ongoing issue of brush on the sides of our trails. Just trying to get ideas from you guys about what you do to take care of it. Seems like we can work all fall and then as soon as it snows it looks like we did nothing. Are you using the snagger deals on the drag?? Something in front where the blade is?? Hiring someone with a brush cutter or what?? Thanks in advance for the help!!!

If you run tractors you can get a brush cutter that mounts to the 3 point and runs off of the PTO. I like the snagger on the drag idea but have never seen one in action. Also sent you a PM.

First off we mow all of our clubs trails with a tractor and brush mower every fall after clearing the down trees. Our mower operator is good at getting out to the edge of the trail or beyond as much as possible. Then we walk it with a Stihl Kombi tool (a KM110R) with the adjustable hedge trimmer attachment, cutting the brush on the sides and around signs.

One thing to watch is it's tempting to cut saplings down with this hedge trimmer attachment, and it will chew through them, but it is hard on the gearbox and over time wrecks the gears. We've had to replace one of our units gear boxes over the course of about 8-9 years of using them.

The dirt bike club I belong to uses the same units to clear single track trails.

Our club has a diamond mower that mounts on the 3pt of one of the groomer tractors, it's all hyd powered and works great. We went from having work teams go out multiple weekends to having one guy spend about a week to brush all of our trails. The first 1-2 years are more work until you get everything trimmed back and after that it goes pretty fast. It was a big investment for our club but the ROI for us has been really high.

Because it's boom-mounted you can reach up and around places that would be almost impossible from the ground or by ladder.

We mounted one of these bad boys to our Kubota tractor. It works well on shearing the pine trees that we have around here.
