Taking off hyfax/ sliders

On all the Polaris sleds I've owned I just remove the bolts, pry the slides back with a screwdriver 1-2 inches, then reach in and clamp on with "long-nose" vicegrips and pull the slides out the back through the track window. On my newer Yamaha's, no joy, have resorted to either removing the suspension, or have done the reverse trick a couple of times. Painful to use big screwdrivers to pry the hyfax from the rear of the slides each time - chewed up aluminum. I never thought something so similar could be so different on two different manufacturer's sleds.

I finally invested in a sled lift last year and that makes the job go MUCH better. Still a PITA on the Yamaha's.

I use my engine hoist to hold up the sled when when changing the slides, also use it to get my sled in the truck when nobody is around.

I borrowed a buddy's engine hoist this fall to swap out a V8 engine and was thinking it would be pretty handy for the sleds, especially the loading/moving stuff.

Two things to add...if you got reverse just get your old slides out the window and pop it in reverse and they come off like butter...second thing is on new slides I cut the ends to somewhat of a point, makes it easier to get them in and out of the windows in the track. Not mush of a point just "knock" the corners off.

This is FUNNY...

Where does the slid go Back in to the tunnel????????????????????

Get yourself a slide removal tool, which is basicly a slide hammer with a screw at the end which you attach to the back of slide then hammer it out. Or use a piece of brass or aluminum in the hole where the screw that holds the slide to the rails is located to get it started then on the face once you have enough room. The slide removal tool works the best from what I have found after years of replacing slides. Just make sure you put lots of anti sieze on slides before you put new ones on so they come off the next time. I have tried other lubricants but the antisieze worked best for me.
