Ted Nuggent speaks !!!!!!!

MARQUETTE -- To his fans, he's Uncle Teddy. Musician, author, public speaker Ted Nugent was in Marquette Tuesday evening, speaking about what he calls 61 years of his clean and sober American Dream.

"Certainly what is outlined in the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Golden Rule, the 10 Commandments, the Declaration of Independence, that's what always inspired me to simply get up early, work as hard as I can, be the best that I can be, and then take the deer season off!" said Nugent, who's an avid hunter.

For those not interested in Nugent's "Kill it and Grill it" speech, across campus, an alternative event was going on: "Mythbusting, Sticks and Stones." It also attracted quite a crowd.

"I think that Ted Nugent has absolutely every right to speak, and no matter who's speaking or what you're talking about, you are going to have people who disagree with what's going on. And this was just something for the people who disagree to come out and listen to and get involved with," said Kaylee Place, President of College Democrats at NMU.

Back at the Berry, Nugent spoke on a host of issues, everything from gun rights to free speech to environmentalism. I was curious what he thinks about the current state of Michigan. He was, after all, born in Detroit.

"It went from being one of the most proud, productive, wonderful states in the nation to becoming a laughing stock. The worst curse of mankind would be self imposed dependency. And unfortunately, Michigan is the poster child for that, and it breaks my heart," Nugent added.

There were rumors in 2006 that Nugent was considering a run for the governorship. Four years later, now that Governor Granholm has reached her term limit, is there a chance we'll see a Governor Uncle Teddy?

"I consult with my campaign manager on an hourly basis, and so far, Mrs. Nugent has not given me the green light."

So don't be on the lookout for "Nugent 2010" posters. On the radar for "The Nuge," is a three-month tour with his band, a few speaking engagements, and a whole lot of hunting.

News Outlets

What I find interesting about this is that last week when local news outlets started reporting on this, some said 1000 people attended and another stated only 70 people attended. I will let the educated people of this board decide which side of the line the outlet that reported 70 people stood on. It just goes to show how discretionary the news can be, even on a small local level. If they want to show Ted Nugent as a right-wing conservative nut, then they will report a low turn-out of "tea-party" wannabees. And if they want to show support for a conservative cause which just happens to be headed by a ex-rock n roll star "the Nuge" then they report that 1000 proud Americans attended the rally. As far to the right that I fall, I can't help but wonder if either of those numbers stated by either outlet is accurate.

food for thought...........

My son is a freshman at NMU and attended this "kill em grill em" event last Tuesday....as far as I can tell from him ( who attended) he said it was a well attend event, orderly, and was an inspirational event for our youth, a dose of common sense.....I am proud that my son bought a ticket and attended........shows me that I have done a good job as a father raising a balance level headed kid.

You got that right. Whatever happened to the political watch dog? The media has become a political party of itself! It’s disgusting to see the news. Takes me 4 hours of research after the drive by media has a 2 minute blurb just to get the truth…. Funny thing is one side picks on people like Rush and call him the voice of conservatism yet he himself will tell you he is on the air for entertainment. My biggest question is why did “because I said so” become a reason not to question an administration? President Kennedy was hauled on the carpet many times. Can you say Nixon? Now its their party so you should go in blind and be a believer no matter what. Just because Obama, CNN, ABC and CBS say so? Mind you Fox does the same thing……Just for the other side…

Well said. You forgot them Dixie Chicks…. lol

Next time let me know a head of time and I’ll buy his next ticket….

I pretty much lost all respect for him when he started "hunting" behind closed fences. That's not even hunting, that's shooting fish in a barrel type scenario. Still listen to some of his music on occasion but the guy is sort of a hypocrite to say the least..

Possibly, but he OWNS the land he is hunting on, and doesn't he own some astronomical amount of acrage? Into the 1000's? If so, let him have at it. He's controlling his land with the fences, good for him.

That's still a lot more of a sport than these clowns treeing bears with dogs.

JMHO.

never mind found one.

There will always be whiners and small-minded squawkers who overreact based on assumption and other unidentifiable presumptuous notions. There are those small minded individuals, a lunatic fringe if you will, that think many forms of legal hunting "degrade the heritage of American hunting." To their way of thinking, in-line muzzleloaders degrade our reputation. They consider scopes on same, treestands, compound bows, crossbows, deer drives, women afield, ad nauseam, as unethical methodologies. I've heard some real doozies out there and don't know whether to laugh or cry, they are so divisive and unsophisticated. I pray they become educated.

There is some truth to this. The funny thing is I saw him on c-span once. This guy called in and was all in his face about it. There was some feedback about him hunting in a pen here in Michigan called the Legend. Ted asked the guy 2 questions. 1. Do you hunt? The guy said no I don't think anyone should hun or own guns! 2. Can you move to Canada please? The dude hung up! lol Then he proceded to explain how it was a make-a-wish hunt with a Paraplegic kid.

He never said if he did it for himself or not. I just loved his responses... Ted Rocks...
