Tek vest and jacket size

All these accident posts have got my attention finally. I see Tek vest freestyle for $200 on ebay. For those who ordered a tek vest, did you have to get a larger sized jacket to wear over it? Did you wear a different mid layer because of the added warmth? I'm concerned mainly for trail riding although we get off trail quite a bit too.

I know there are other brands but Tek vest seems to be the most popular.

"Freestyle Tekvest" and the "Klim Tekvest" are my favorite, and the same due to fit, comfort, and protection. It really depends on the brand/style jacket you own and how it fits you currently. The majority of my tshirts are a medium/large, my klim togwotee bibs are a medium, yet my tomahawk parka is an x-large partially to fit over my tekvest and partially due to klim's sizing (their large hardly fits me without a tekvest as it is).

Probably need bigger jacket unless already big on you.
To me vest are pretty warm so if your jacket has a liner might be able to take it out and be good unless it's super cold out.
I usually just wear under armour t-shirt, then sweatshirt and my jacket with liner and I'm good down to zero.

I've tried on a tek vest before so I'm ok with the sizing for that - wish I would have had my sled jacket with at the time to see how that works with it.

Can you wear these vests on the outside?

I bought a BCA avy bag vest last week after taking a shot to my stomach and one to side ribs. It obviously goes on outside, but I believe the BCA vest without avy bag goes on outside as well.

Now I gotta sell my almost new avy back pack......

I think some people wear them on the outside but I'd prefer to have it on the inside.

Good to know which one to buy. Thanks. When I tried one on, the XL seemed to fit just right. For Klim I definitely need 2X. I have a Polaris e-vent shell jacket that fits me great over a thick midlayer.

I'm a really big guy but due to my bypass surgery last summer I lost 70 or so lbs. My TekVest is a XXL and I USED to wear a Klim Vector parka in 5XL(Klim's sizing SUX)......thanks to weight loss I dropped 2 full sizes and the new jacket fits just fine, vest and all.....I know that info won't help you that much......I was trying to point out if you cinch the vest up fairly tight it won't effect jacket fit all that much.......oh, and as to mid layers, the vest will keep your torso warmer but you have issues trying to keep the arms warm unless a really good, quality jacket.

Everything I wear is layered including 661 & tek vests will change your complete layering system. My 661 goes under my bibs then outer shell or add fleece in single digits & below. Underneath the 661 is a DTC Tneck & poly undershirt. My shell velcros very tight at sleeves so don't need much insulation for my aams & I like arms to move freely. More than likely tek vest will throw off jacket fit but well worth it to replace jacket to save ribs. 661 prolly will work with current jacket much less bulk.

x2..whitedust set me up with the 661 and i highly recommend it..it fits as additional layer..no arms/shoulder pads to get in your way..and once you've worn it you wont go without it..its sized small so go 2x if you try it..and same jacket no adjustment needed..goes underneath

Reading your post I thought you were going to tell us the color of your underwear..... ;)

What is a "661"? Please enlighten us less knowledgeable ones.

My first stab at it. fits under my jacket. It is warm too. eliminates a layer. forget it is on me which is one thing I was worried about. i took the shoulder pads off.

I thought I had this figured out. Now I will look into this. I like the price and that it is less bulky. Does it protect as well? Probably hard to tell on the internet

Is this the one you have? How is the sizing?

Yes that is the 661 core protector with spine protection. I also wrap back thing by RU oustide around it. Go one size larger as sized on the smaller side. Dan & I just pull on /off over head but does have a side zipper. The price is about right....Dan & I wanted protection for organs + spine protection and wanted it to be able to breath as well. Should fit with current jacket as well. I have mine for many years now so holds up well.

WD: You have my interest up on this 6-6-1. I wear a light weight tee and lite fleece pull over with zip neck/turtle. I am a large size shirt, and have a XL Klim coat. What size 6-6-1 would you say to try??
