Good discussion. I keep thinking I should get one myself but know nothing about them. It seems Tek vest is the most common but good to read the comparisons against the others too.

Please stud your sleds and wear Tek-Vests, Accidents do happen. Ending note: Michigan is a no fault state..............

CW
38 years of riding, no vest, not saying it's right wrong or otherwise, I've just been reasonably careful. Yes, accidents can & do happen & I have had my share in my lifetime so far, I've just never felt the need. Ending note: Michigan's No-Fault is only applicable to auto insurance. Ride safe, no matter what you wear, or what you don't wear.-Mezz

The way I think is that the safety equipment is out there, why not use it? I guess to each it's own, some people wear helmets on motorcycles, others don't.

I wear shin pads, elbow pads, body armor and an thinking about adding a mouth guard. I still get banged up. But I am having a blast, pushing myself and am able to go out the next day.....after 6 aleve. haha

X2... The only reason that I can think of for not buying protection is that a protective vest won't fit with current jackets & one does not want to spend the money for new jacket & vest. There are tek vests that can be worn on the outside of jackets but maybe that is not cool....lol.. I had a riding bud that rolled his sled behind me I took a sharp turn he didn't expect he oversteered & wham body & sled both bouncing along the trail just before Military Hill by the highway. Rolled into Pat's & had his sled repaired but he stiffened up while waiting & that was end of his sleddin trip after along slow ride back to Phelps. I can't count the times I asked him to buy a vest even took him by the hand to try vests on at Chance Hardware in Mass City but still didn't buy. After that spill he was pretty much done with riding couldn't take the pain then go to work on Tuesday after 3 day weekend. In his case a tek vest would have saved his weekend & might still be riding today.:)

I also wear knee/shin guards. Tagged a rock Saturday morning and was bucked off my sled, didn't land on anything hard, but ya never know what's hiding under the snow.

Me, my son and all my friends ride with wear a tekvest. I use the super sport by tekrider. I even have spares in case someone new joins us and doesn't have one. I've been in a group on two occasions where one in the group hit a tree...One experienced rider and another was new to the sport. Like other people, I really feel like I'm missing something if I don't wear one. After one ride it becomes part of the gear you wear and is not in my way at all. I love mine and would never ride without one.

i ordered the large/ extra large..the concept is perfect but this thing is tight..i dont see a 2x or anything..any ideas

found the xxl..so ordered that..my kid can use the smaller one

cant even order direct from 661..they dont take cards

Yep said it is sized small but should be snug fit. I zip mine up & just pull off/on over my head & add a back thing over stock belt support....mine goes on never comes off until done riding for the day... XXL should fit. All tek vests are snug or would be useless. Bud had a rigit vest took it off for lunch & forgot it. We thought is was gone but bar owner knew it was us & stored it in the back then UPSed to my bud in 3 lakes,WI got to luv biz owners in UP. Beauty of 661 is no problem wearing it all day & in bars/grills. Good to have on incase you get in a bar fight .lol:)

wow..been a few years between bar fights:D mine doesnt have a zipper..but i agree..with the bigger size should be the 2nd layer and stay on all day..it is exactly what i was looking for..didnt want the football shoulder pads..just chest protection..that gal that got torn up on hsc last year..this would have saved alot of her injuries..just want the chest protection..hit a soft spot on ice last year on the throttle down..got pitched and thrown..wrist still hurts..but just missed the bars..that was my main worry

u still riding early jan?

found the zipper ..duh

Did you get the core protector with spine protection? I like the spine protection, a little padding in the shoulders with a nice breast plate. I have been hit too many times in the body with chunks off trees & dead branches on windy days. I like going out in fresh snow so getting dumped on is part of the price you pay for the powder.
Yes I would be riding if I could but only 4 inches in Phelps but with dump on Monday night I'll be riding by Wednesday. Gkids here now so gravity sleddin with them till Wednesday. I sure hope John sees this storm dump in Vilas that way it will get Watersmeet going too & open up entire UP to me.

I sure hope I'm riding WUP between Jan 3rd & 17th. Only way I would not be riding is lack of snow.

I have used the Freestyle version for three years now and last year, had a "good" use for it. I hit a backpack sized pile of ice on Gogebic at about 75 and proceeded to roll across the ice about 20 times. Between the vest, backpack and 509 helmet, all i sustained were a few scratches and bruises (scared the crap out of my buddies when they turned around and i wasn't there). I also like the wind protection that it provides. Even with the cold winters we have had the last two years, i still only wear my jacket shell over the vest, with one or two layers on underneath depending on the temp.
