The all famous polaris whine when you let off the gas (the brake)

I know this has been brought up many times about the whine that a lot of polaris' have when you let off the gas but i forget what caused this exactly and what you can do to not have it as much. my dad's 700 doesn't do it at all and my 700 does it the millisecond you let off the gas, i don't mind it but it's just weird how much it does it compared to my 500 (which does it but it's not that bad)

brake

indy, its definately the brake and you cant do anything to make it better, except buy a new sled that has the phantom brake system. i believe the 2006 and newer for sure maybe earlier.it never bothered me except when we would swap sleds then get back on my poo it would be noticeable again.my 2006 fusion,07 IQ,and my 2010 dragon all have the phantom and its a lot nicer not hearing the whining.

Chain case

I thought that whine had more to do with the chaincase. The noise happens without applying the brake. I'm sure others will chime in and let us know.

The noise comes from the chaincase and has to do with the chain tensioner design in the older sleds (Edge, Gen II, ...). Any deceleration will cause it to make noise. It's typically louder when hard braking. Chain tension set as recommended in the owners manual will minimize the noise, but will not make it go away completely. The newer IQ models have a different chain tensioner design that does not make the noise.

no more whining

edge chain cases that have alm. idler need to have the polaris plastic idler put in (metal wheel held in plastic) no more vibrating sorry but nothing to do with brakes

Indy, It's the chain case. Glad to hear you are riding it. I may sound like your mother, but be safe. The 700 is a lot of sled for you.

and i'm not bothered or worried about the whining but i just forgot exactly what it was and if spraying brake cleaner anywhere would help

whine

It is definately the idler tensioner. When you let off the gas it loads the chain against the tensioner, hense the whine. Doesn't hurt anything and no way to get rid of it.
