My first trip to the UP is next week, the 16th-23rd, and I don't like the forecast! I plan my big trip for mid January to avoid the chances of a thaw, but now we are even looking at the possibility of rain! Unbelievable! The weather has been great so far, and I'd rather ride in 0 degrees than have temps in the 30's and a chance for rain. The trails just don't firm up in those temps. I can only hope the forecast changes. There, I feel better to get that off my chest. :(

I hope so snow monkey, but they seem to be much more accurate on temperatures than on snow or rainfall amounts. By the time you go, the warm up will hopefully be long gone! Have a great trip.

We have a group heading up north on the 21st as well. Not sure on where you're headed, but I know there is a ton of snow around the Hurley/Ironwood area (they received over 40" since New Years Day) so a brief warm up can be tolerated. The chance of rain hopefully turns into alot of snow. Think positive, and do the snow dance!!

Best trip....

The best trip we ever had was a trip where warm temps were predicted. Funny thing though, temps were off 3-4 degrees and it never stopped snowing while we were there. So, clean the carbs and clutches and have a great time.

Our trip to da UP is also next week. Does not look great, but should be ok. Be nice to get away for awhile and see some beautiful country and great friends!

Attitude is key

It sounds like I need to be a bit more positive. We will have fun no matter what!

mspease beet me to the question, the wife and I just booked two nights in ishpeming, and two nights in baraga 1/15-1/18. We where planing to back pack it from ishpeming to big bay then on to baraga saterday. Sunday from baraga to copper harbor and back. Monday from baraga back to ishpeming.Tuesday home to traverse city. Now with the forcast I'm considering canceling and waiting for colder temps. Can anyone tell me if I could still have good trail conditions durring this time?

It's all about expectations and Perspective. Plan on it being really bad, that way it can't get any worse, only upside. Perspective, dude, you live by Spooner, think of all the city dwellers on this forum that would love to spend a week where you live. You are blessed to live there year round and spend your vacation in the UP, I call that icing on the cake.

Expectations is the reason for my post. We just road 700 miles in four days last week around seney and had great trail conditions. What I was looking for was.does anyone ride the trails in question and can they hold up to a warm-up. If they can't I would rather pospone the trip a couple weeks

We too are heading up next week, 19th - 24th based at Parkview, I am getting really dispointed as we have 1st timer to the UP heading up with us, and I have been bragging about it and the snow for weeks.... Lets all hope for mother natureto change her mind and cool it down some from the current forecast. But I need to say that it always is and will be agreat time no mater what. The ironic thing is my wife and I headed up to the UP for the first time non-winter this past summer and they were having a very cool trend which if this warming trend stays as forescast will be very close to the nightime temps this summer...

heckler56,

I am very lucky to live up here, I spent way too many years in the Twin Cities fighting traffic and crowds. I don't miss it one bit, except the variety of food places to eat. You'd be surprised how much you miss Taco Bell, Wendy's, Culver's, LeeAnn Chin, Chili's etc. when all you have is McDonald's and Subway.

I still want good riding conditions when I go the UP as this is the big trip for me. I will go at least 2 more times on shorter trips, but we drop lots of money on this trip and we can't cancel or change our reservations. As they say, "it is what it is", I just wish it wasn't. :)
