These Lake effect snow bands are awesome

We are getting some good lake effect here in Hayward..it will snow hard for 10mins then the sun pops out and 5mins later its snowing to beat **** and it keep repeating its self.Just awesome..going to go fire the sled in a bit.April 19th and still snowmobiling and its awesome!

Not to anal, or burst your bubble, but not lake effect snow. It is showery because it is being caused by cellular cumulus clouds in the cold air of the upper air low. Acts just like lake effect can though.

In either case, have fun!

Well what makes me think its lake effect that it is not snowing north or west of Duluth just us on the south shore according to the radar

I see. Radar is not always the best tool to use when working with LES. Visible satellite is typically the best as a lot of LES happens below the radar. I attached the snapshot of the visible satellite imagery to show the same general cloud pattern producing the off and on show showers extended as far south as northern IL. Some snows were falling that far south as well.

Thank you John for clearing things up..NWS out of Duluth said that lake effect was going to continue for the south shore which they had most of Northern WI shaded on their forecast graphic.So that is why I thought it was lake effect.
