Things to do in Minneapolis

Meeting family in Minneapolis for a little vacation in July. What are must see things in the area? Age range 74 to 5. Don't have to accommodate all ages for each activity. Just don't have any idea of things to do in the area other than the Mall of America and maybe a Twins game. Thanks, Jeff

lake Minnetonka boat cruse they have dinner type tings or just a ride around the lake http://www.al-almas.com/?gclid=COfMvKD03b0CFYc7OgodgAwARg fun for the old timers and kids

or take a cruse on the restored steam boat sweet ride is in Wayzata so only 17 min from down town Minneapolis .nice little down town for shopping dinning http://www.steamboatminnehaha.org/index.html
btw the first boat is the infamous Vikings boat lol.
if u were to do a Al-Almas cruse with in 10 min there is a cool mini golf/sculpture garden with chickens and goats running around cool place. http://bigstoneminigolf.com/ the best food imho in that area would be the Dakota junction in mound on your way to the golf grab some take out and eat in a sculpture in the woods at golf.

if down town u can stroll the stone arch bridge and get some nice picks and its free (my grate grate grandfather was the stone mason contractor on it) weekends usually a small farmers market close by next to the walker for a quick lunch to carry down
st paul has more standing history if in st paul area do a drive down summit ave some sweet old mansions on that street start at the cathedral places like James j Hills house. grand ave a block away lots of good restaurants and shops .or good pizza and fast Italian at Coseta market just down the hill from cathedral kitty corner from excel stadium
st paul has como zoo more or less free donation type of thing zoo nice zoo but nothing crazy few rides for the kids seal show yada yada but sweet old greenhouse or what ever u call them. at the como lake u can rent the old school paddle swans
Minnehaha falls can be cool if we have had a lot of rain but prob not in july

but every one has there own trip so what kind of stuff do u like to do?

Sure the Vu would bee great family fun most of the staff are single mothers trying to pay their way through college. On a serious note the Lake Minnetonka curse is a great idea. Did it twice last year and I had a boat on the lake. It is nice sometimes for someone else to be captain once in a while.

We had some friends in from across the pond and they enjoyed the Mill Ruins Park along with a Lock and Dam riverboat tour.

The park is adjacent to the ruins right along the river.
The lock and dam is fun to see.

I am not sure if you can still do the paddle boat tour through the locks. Carp are shutting down the river because of the intervention/prevention. If you can do the lock tour, do it now.
The whole thing would be less than a day. It is the same area as the Farmer's Market that Ezra is talking about.

This area is just next to the river near downtown Minneapolis.

It is interesting to see how the area is trying to manage the geology along the river over the years. The cities are build on limestone that continues to decay along with the river bluffs and falls.

If they might be into history stuff, this might be an option. There is some for the kids and adults.

Just wear a Green Bay Packer jersey into almost any Minnsota tavern, you will meet all kinds of close friends. NOT!

Where was the lake scene from Grumpy Old Men filmed?
